I’ve joined the Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook. From their description: “Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).” Pretty cool, eh? Don’t forget to “Like” my Facebook page and/or my Facebook profile while you’re over there checking out this fantastic group!
Today’s snippet is from To Love and To Cherish, a novel spinning off from ’Til Death Do Us Part, coming out in ebook format TODAY!!!! (and in print on November 30th)
This snippet picks up directly where I left off last week. Nash has just worked up the nerve to open the door and enter (his best friend and temporary roommate) Harley’s apartment. Oliver is Harley’s boyfriend. Oliver observed that Nash is looking rather rumpled. Here are seven lines (sorry—one over the limit…again) told from Nash’s 3rd-person POV:
Harley’s forehead crinkled as his eyebrows raised. “So he is. Where’d you go? I thought you said you’d be right back.”
“Who are you, my dad?” Nash immediately regretted his immature reaction.
Oliver laughed and elbowed Harley. “Methinks your son is hiding something, Padre.”

Will Nash find love again? Of course he will. Will he go about it in the usual manner? Now that’s another story entirely.
Jilted by his fiancé two weeks before their wedding, Nash Marino’s outlook on life in general, and love in particular, is jaded. After months of couch-surfing, Nash is fed up. He’s sick and tired of his living conditions, worn out by the demands of his nursing job, and despairs of ever finding love again. In fact, he doesn’t think he’s capable of true love. Monogamy, commitment, companionship, and regular sex…that’s all he wants, and the sooner, the better.
When Nash crosses paths with a like-minded man who’s also in need of a live-in nurse for a beloved relative, Nash figures all his problems are solved. Matters are complicated by a freak accident and amnesia. When Nash’s marriage of convenience scheme is muddied by notions of love after his memory reboot, will their plans go awry, or will Nash’s new outlook on life be just what the doctor ordered?
Love the banter. It’s full of warmth and caring and love.
Thank you! 🙂
Love this. Still intrigued about where he’s been 😀
Poor confused Nash has just made a decision that most would consider to be rash, and he’s terrified of explaining the situation to his best friends.
What fun banter.
Thank you! 🙂
Fun snippet – and I love the sound of that blurb! 😀
It’s a good job my tbr pile is only virtual, or it would have toppled over and buried me by now….
Oh, man. I hear that. Mine grows faster than I can pare it down.
What a fun snippet, setting off the sparks between these two characters! Congrats on your ebook release!
Thank you! Harley and Oliver are fun side characters who may possibly get a story of their own at some point.
Love the banter, and the scene was very visual and easy to imagine.
Thank you! 🙂
Hahaha! I love the banter, and this only makes me like Oliver more.
Thank you! He plays an important role for a seemingly minor side-character. I enjoyed creating his personality. <3
