I’ve joined the Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook. From their description: “Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).” Pretty cool, eh? Don’t forget to “Like” my Facebook page and/or my Facebook profile while you’re over there checking out this fantastic group!
This week I’m snipping from Captain Jack and the Snack Attack, a short story in the FREE anthology, Make the Yuletide Gay (now available – see links, below). These are the opening lines, so no context needed (blurb below the snip). Sorry about blowing off the 6-sentence rule, but so many of these sentences are in the 1-3 word range.
Told from Gordie’s 3rd-person POV.
“No, no, no!” Gordie Triggs grumbled as he elbowed his best friend, Claire. His light brown hair swung across his brow as he cocked his head toward Mr. Short-Pale-and-Stunningly-Handsome, fifty yards away on the other side of the convention hall. “Dammit! He’s going back.”
Claire turned to look at the man as he headed back to the signed Dead Men Tell No Tales movie poster Gordie had bid on. Gordie would’ve bet his left nut the well-fitting navy suit the guy wore was an Armani G-Line.
“Bastard.” Her mutter might have held a hint of sarcasm. Her side-eye definitely did. “Who does he think he is, anyway?”

Let’s Not Go Crazy by Stephen Hoppa
The holidays are stressful enough without Ethan’s boyfriend Nate trying to kill him with Christmas cheer. But Nate’s found a whole new way to torture Ethan when he reveals that he wants kids. Will their conflicting desires tear their relationship apart, or will they find a way to ring in the new year stronger than ever?
Captain Jack and the Snack Attack by Addison Albright
Two men determined to win the same treasure at a charity silent auction, a wayward kitten, grumbling tummies, and a dilemma: what’s the correct gift-giving etiquette for a first date that’s mere days before Christmas, and what could possibly go awry with this merry combination?
The Christmas Day Date by Nell Iris
One rainbow Christmas tree in harm’s way and an afternoon spent eating far too many cookies, equals two men with changed holiday plans. But how does that translate into a date?
The Year of the Monkey by Amy Tasukada
The last thing Aoi wants to do for New Year’s is spend it with his boyfriend’s parents. They were far from thrilled when their son came out. Can Aoi warm their hearts making traditional mochi or will they end up in an even stickier situation?
An earlier edition of Captain Jack and the Snack Attack was printed in booklet form for distribution at GayRomLit in Denver, and at future conventions.

I did way too many lines, too. We can be rule breakers together 🙂
Rebels! <3
Mine went over too.
I’m giggling because I’ve been a bidder in a silent auction, fuming every time someone decided to outbid me.
Hahahaha…yeah, I’ve been there, too. Won in the end, though (a signed Superman Returns movie poster—I’m not quite as thrilled to have Kevin Spacey’s autograph as I once was).
Hehe. I’m bad enough with online auctions. Silent ones would probably kill me through sheer annoyance.
They can be quite nerve-racking when you find something you really want.
Oooh, I hate silent auctions because I can’t help but take them personally. How dare someone outbid me, I mean, just because I outbid them… There’s some seriously good description in this snippet! Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you! 😃 I find that they’re fun unless I get personally invested in winning a particular item. Then it’s stressful!
OMG what a cute story, like Figaro and Cleo!!!! <3 I always break that “six sentence” rule. Can’t be helped LOL
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I know, it’s tough enough coming up with a reasonably short snippet that can kind of stand alone and be fun in its own right!
I think Gordie should bet both nuts, just to be on the safe side! 🙂 LOL
LOL. Poor Gordie! 💕
I’m sure he’ll find out who the man thinks he is in due course…. Fun snip.
LOL…no doubt he will! ♡ Thank you!
Auctions can make you nuts.
They sure can! 😜
I’m “betting” he meets his rival bidder…
I wouldn’t bet against you. 😉
