Treadmill Week 66 & What I #amreading – Skythane by J. Scott Coatsworth

Treadmill Goals/Tracking

  • Get on the treadmill (or equivalent exercise) daily
  • Pace is fine at 30 min/mile, although I may up it on occasion
  • Time range between 30 minutes and 1 hour per day
  • Distance 1-2 miles per day
  • Read the chosen book, which I won’t allow myself to read outside of my treadmill time, hopefully motivating me to reach or exceed the above goals (exception…at the end of the week where a book is highlighted, I will finish it off-treadmill so I can feature something new the next week)

What I’m Reading

Note: Although I will try to avoid them, my weekly reading snippets may or may not contain spoilers, so read at your own risk.

What I #amreading: Skythane (The Oberon Cycle – book 1) by J. Scott Coatsworth

My favorite lines this week:

✿✿ SUNDAY ✿✿

His dark wings with their jet-black feathers were stretched out lazily to each side of his supine form, their tips extending past the edge of the bed. His chest heaved slowly up and down, and he breathed easily, as if he were utterly relaxed.

Nothing could have been further from the truth.

✿✿ MONDAY ✿✿

“I’ve never ridden a hover bike before.” He said the word as if he’d just stepped in something that was never going to come off his shiny leather shoes.

✿✿ TUESDAY ✿✿

“You can’t wear that where we’re going.” He indicated Jameson’s clothing with the same disdain Jameson himself had used for the hoverbike.

✿✿ WEDNESDAY ✿✿

“Holy craaaaap,” he shouted, shaking his wrist. “What the fuck is wrong with you people?” All sense of decorum gone, he banged his aching wrist against the side of the truck again and again until it started to bleed, It helped distract him from the pain of the disruptor burn.

✿✿ THURSDAY ✿✿

“Leave me alone.” He knew he sounded like a petulant five-year-old, but at the moment he really didn’t care.

✿✿ FRIDAY ✿✿

When he opened his eyes again sometime later after a dreamless sleep, it was fully dark out. Not the dark of his parents’ estate, or the dark of the mining camp on Tander’s World, but a pitch blackness only partially relieved by the little fire, like ink held back only by the flickering of the flames.

✿✿ SATURDAY ✿✿

He shook his head. The world was what it was, and wishes wouldn’t change that.

    1. I’ve decided that wings are my new favorite thing in stories. I still have to finish this book, but it’s really grabbed me and I’ll get it done within a couple days. 🙂
