Treadmill Goals/Tracking
- Get on the treadmill (or equivalent exercise) daily
- Pace is fine at 30 min/mile, although I may up it on occasion
- Time range between 30 minutes and 1 hour per day
- Distance 1-2 miles per day
- Read the chosen book, which I won’t allow myself to read outside of my treadmill time, hopefully motivating me to reach or exceed the above goals (exception…at the end of the week where a book is highlighted, I will finish it off-treadmill so I can feature something new the next week)

Mal grinned suddenly, this one seeming genuine. “You know, you’re like if Tintin and Captain Haddock had a kid together.”
Jory stared. “That’s possibly the most horrifying thing anyone’s ever said to me.”
It wasn’t, actually, even close, but it got him a laugh.
✿✿ MONDAY ✿✿
It felt weird, having Jory in his bedroom, standing six inches away from his unmade bed. And yesterday’s kecks, which he’d stripped off last night and let fall on the floor. Mal managed to kick them under the bed when he went to grab his phone.
✿✿ TUESDAY ✿✿
“It’s…complicated,” Jory told the table, cos he still wasn’t meeting Mal’s gaze.
“Too fucking right it is,” Mal had to agree. He wasn’t sure whether to sit down again or just get out of this mess, but then the waitress turned up with a couple of piled-up plates of full Cornish breakfast. His stomach decided it was giving the orders, and his bum hit the seat before his brain could get a word in edgewise.
✿✿ WEDNESDAY ✿✿
“I’ve actually been thinking about a mermaid exhibit,” Jory said, warming to the subject. “We could incorporate local and foreign legends, and I’m pretty sure I can get my hands on a genuine Fiji mermaid.”
“Uh. You know mermaids ain’t real, right?”
“Jory laughed, relief that they were back on a friendly footing making him lightheaded. “Genuine in this case means ‘really made from the front half of a stuffed monkey sewn to the back end of a salmon.'”
“Fuck me, that sounds well gross.” Mal grinned. “Kids’ll love it.”

You ain’t gonna make it to your forties. Someone’ll murder you way before then. Sit down, cos I’m getting you a glass of water and you’re either drinking it or wearing it. Your choice. She stepped over to the sink.

Mal’s laugh was a bit higher pitched and more girly than he’d have liked it to be, but at least it let out some of the tension. “Mate, that was terrible. Seriously. Never, ever give up the day job.”
✿✿ SATURDAY ✿✿
“I knew it! I fucking knew it. Hey, congrats, Tash. Welcome to the bi side, where love has twice as many chances to screw you over like a boss.”
Tasha managed a weak smile. “Do I get a membership card?”
“Better than that. Free invisibility cloak and a pack of unicorn stickers.” He squeezed her shoulders. “Does she know you like her?”
Ooooh, that book sounds great. Is it any good? 🙂
It is! Although it’s book 9 in the series, that series is really a bunch of standalone stories (even by different authors) that are set in the same fictional location. In this case, although it features a different couple, It might be better appreciated if you’ve read book 1 (J.L.’s other book in the series) first since there are a number of references to stuff in that story. Not absolutely necessary, though, since it covers what you’d need to know.
(Kind of like reading To Love and To Cherish without first reading ’Til Death Do Us Part.)
I’ve actually bought book 1 in the series but haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. I’ll just read it before I decide on this one then 🙂
You’ll probably like it since you like characters with flaws/issues. One of the MCs in book 1 has narcolepsy.
Yes! That’s what made me buy it in the first place! 🙂
TBH, if I were to rank all her books in order of my favorites on down, that one (book 1) would be closer to the bottom, but in the scheme of all books out there, it still ranks fairly high. If I remember right, it didn’t have the same level of humor in it that most of her books have, and that’s part of what draws me to her stories.
