#1LineWednesday – 2018-Aug-29 – The Contingency Plan

I’m going to be a little loose with my definition of “line” today. This is technically three sentences, but it’s one stream of thought in a single bit of dialogue.

This is from The Contingency Plan. It’s one of three books I added to Kindle Unlimited recently, and it finally went live in the program a couple days ago. I’m being a little loose with my definition of “recently,” too, since it took Amazon six frigging weeks to update them.

Anyway, for a little context, this snippet has Prince Efren speaking, but it is from Prince Marcelo’s POV (the whole story is, although you can read the opening scenes from Prince Efren’s POV if you follow the menu, above, to the bonus scenes tab). Prince Marcelo has led a sheltered life, and his twin sister, who had been scheduled to marry Prince Efren to seal the final deal in a peace treaty between two kingdoms, recently died. Here Prince Efren is leading up to his selection of an alternate.

The Contingency Plan

“Sibling. The terms of the treaty specify I may choose an alternate from among Princess Marcela’s younger siblings. It didn’t restrict the choice to daughters.”

Here’s the blurb:

A sheltered prince. A sudden death. An unexpected choice. How will Prince Marcelo react to discovering he’s The Contingency Plan?

For eighteen years, there has been peace between Sheburat and the kingdom of Zioneven. The untimely death of a princess throws the marriage arrangement—the final phase to complete the terms of the treaty—into disarray, and the contingency plan is put into motion. Now the Crown Prince of Zioneven gets to make his own choice from among the princess’s younger siblings.

As a rare royal son in the matriarchal sovereignty of Sheburat, Prince Marcelo grew up knowing he would never marry. Never. Royal sons did not marry. Period. Except, Prince Efren isn’t from Sheburat, and he has other plans.

    1. Ha! I got drawn into The Choice, so I haven’t worked on it lately. Now I’m putting a holiday story to the front of the queue, but after that, I want to go back to The Best Laid Plans.

      1. Yay for holiday story! I was gonna write one, too, but life happened and I haven’t started yet and I doubt I’ll have time to finish it…I just have to decide soon, so I can either get going, or tell JM not to hold a spot for me. Ugh. So hard.

        1. I didn’t promise one to the point of “hold me a spot, please,” but I’m gonna try. I’ve got much of it worked out in my mind, but have to figure a few things more things out.
