July flew by and August was reaching an end. But even after the talk he’d had with Jonah over two months ago, and the promises he’d made to himself that things were going to change, he was still letting this shit happen. Eli stretched his arm across the bed and patted the cool sheets. He had no clue what the point was when he already knew, without having to look, that he was alone. Still, when he finally pried his eyes open and saw the other side of the bed empty, disappointment cut through him like a knife.
He’d let it happen again.
And every time he woke up alone, he loathed himself a little more. What single, twenty-eight-year-old was sitting around, pining over one person? Fucking pathetic.
“Way to have some fucking willpower, asshole,” he grumbled as he swung his legs off the side of the bed and sat up. He stayed there for a minute with his head hung and eyes closed, taking a deep breath. The last thing he wanted to do was see Novak at the shop, but he had no choice. He had three clients lined up for the day that he couldn’t reschedule now. “Fuck,” he groaned as he stretched his arms above his head, feeling the ache in his muscles and resenting the reason they felt that way.
It didn’t take him long to shower, dress, and eat, but he took his time walking to the shop. His first client wasn’t until eleven, so there was no point in rushing. By the time he got there, someone was sitting in the waiting area, another guy was at the front counter filling out forms, and Kenz was walking someone back to her stall. Jake and Ryder were in the middle of a conversation, making plans to go out that night and get laid. Something inside Eli snapped because it was then that he realized…he was the last resort. All too often, Jake went out with Ryder, and then ended up at Eli’s door. I’m such a fucking idiot.
Jake’s eyes landed on him and they held each other’s stare for a minute. Eli’s muscles tensed, and he ground his teeth just to keep from exploding. Abruptly, he looked away, avoiding eye contact with anyone else as he walked down the hall to his station and began cleaning and setting up for his first appointment. A knock on the door frame had him looking up to meet a pair of chocolate brown eyes. He bit his tongue and looked back down without a word.
“Hey.” Jake shifted from foot to foot in the doorway, but Eli couldn’t find an ounce of fucks to give that the guy was uncomfortable. Jake took a couple steps inside the room, no doubt to avoid nosy eyes on him. “About last night—”
“Don’t.” Eli paused with the cellophane in his hand hovering over the armrest of the chair. He glanced up at Jake then back down and proceeded to wrap the arm in the plastic. “I already know what you’re gonna say. I don’t need to hear it again.”
“I’m not cut out for that shit, Eli. You know that.” The pleading in Jake’s deep voice was too much for Eli to handle.
“What I know is that we were headed for that shit, whether you’d like to admit it or not. I don’t know what the fuck happened.” He moved over to the other arm and wrapped it tightly. “Quite frankly, I no longer give a shit.”

Welcome, and thank you for stopping by! Tell us a little about yourself and your writing goals.
I’m Jaclyn Quinn, author of the MM contemporary romance series Haven’s Cove and my new series Beyond the Cove. I started writing about five years ago but didn’t publish my first book until February 2018. There are three books in the first series: Hard to Let Go, Hard to Get, and Hard to Hold. Book one of the Beyond the Cove series is Drawn to You and is my fourth published book. I never thought I would publish one book, never mind four. I’m so grateful for the opportunities I had this past year. My goal is to keep moving forward. There will be about four or five more books in this new series. I also have a few standalone ideas I’ll be working on. I just want to keep following my dream, wherever it leads me.
Congratulations on your new release. Please tell us a little bit about it. What’s your favorite aspect or part of the story? Do you have a favorite character? Who/Why?
Drawn To You is an MM contemporary romance about two men trying to find a new beginning. Eli wants to be more than friends-with-benefits with Jake, but Jake repeatedly pushes him away. When Jake has something very tragic happen in his life, it forces both men to face the things that are worth fighting for. I originally thought Eli would be the one I’d favor, but Jake really brought out all my emotions. His story wasn’t an easy one to write. It challenged me, saddened me, and gave me hope.
Do deadlines motivate you or block you? How do you deal with them?
Deadlines stress me out. With most things, I work better under pressure but not with my writing. I’m not someone who can sit down every day and just write. I have to be in the right mind-set. Since I self-publish, I told myself with this last book that I wasn’t going to set ridiculous deadlines for myself. They only serve to stress me out and, ultimately, I shut down.
What was the most difficult part of writing this book? Why?
The emotional aspect of this book was, by far, the hardest part for me. I cried A LOT and questioned if writing about this tragedy was the way to go. These characters spoke so loudly, I had no choice but to get this story out. And then I cried some more! LOL I always write about emotional subjects, but this one was on another level for me.
How do you develop a story idea? Do you always use the same method? Specifically, which do you develop first in your story building, the characters or the plot?
Usually, for the plot, I’ll have a scenario in mind and then start building my characters and how they would react to those situations. Secondary characters come to me as I’m writing. Most of the time, I don’t know how many books will be in a series because the secondary characters pop up out of nowhere. Once I have a pretty good idea of where I want the story to go, I pull my friends into the process. Talking out a storyline always helps me decide which way to go. Sometimes, I don’t even know which way to go until I talk it out.
What are your favorite genres when it comes to your own pleasure reading? Do you prefer to read ebooks or print?
I pretty much only read M/M contemporary romance. I do occasionally venture into paranormal. I read mostly ebooks now, but I still love owning paperbacks.
What advice would you give to newbie writers?
My advice would be to try not to compare yourself to other authors out there. I still do it, and it’s an awful thing to do to myself. Also, building a social media presence is incredibly important. Interact with readers and get to know them. They are so vital to your career and word of mouth is huge. Readers are extremely important. Most importantly, though, stay true to yourself and your writing.
What is the best money you ever spent as an author?
Going to GRL was the best money I’ve ever spent. I met so many amazing people, some of whom are now my closest friends. Before going to GRL, I had the support of my friends at home, but they couldn’t completely understand what I was going through. After GRL, I no longer felt like I was alone, and I can’t tell you how important that was to me.
What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?
When I’m alone in my car is usually when I come up with ideas for my stories. I pretty much have characters talking in my head constantly. I also worry a lot. When I’m in my car alone, that’s a prime location for me to worry about anything and everything. LOL

I have been an artist from a very young age. From drawing cartoon characters and evolving into portraits, making jewelry, photography, and now writing. I have an amazing support system in my family and friends and couldn’t be more grateful.
I live in central New Jersey, love summers at the Jersey Shore, rock music, wine, sexy men, and laughing a lot with my amazing friends and family. Sunday dinners at my parents’ house are crazy, hysterical and you can count on a movie quote…or ten…being thrown out. Insults between siblings is how we show our love for each other!
When I’m not creating, you can find me reading books from my favorite authors. I’m a hopeless romantic, starving for passionate characters and always craving that happy ending, whether in reading or in writing my own books.
