Treadmill Week 106 & What I #amreading – Everything Is Better with a Cape by C.H. Clepitt

Treadmill Goals/Tracking

  • Get on the treadmill (or equivalent exercise) daily
  • Pace is fine at 30 min/mile, although I may up it on occasion
  • Time range between 30 minutes and 1 hour per day
  • Distance 1-2 miles per day
  • Read the chosen book, which I won’t allow myself to read outside of my treadmill time, hopefully motivating me to reach or exceed the above goals (exception…at the end of the week where a book is highlighted, I will finish it off-treadmill so I can feature something new the next week)

What I #amreading: Everything Is Better with a Cape (I Wore Heels to the Apocalypse 2) by C.H. Clepitt

What is better than a sarcastic talking badger? A sarcastic talking badger with superpowers, of course!

Having survived the apocalypse, Kerry is back to being a socially awkward web developer, but when apocalypse survivors start ending up dead, with her next on the list, events begin to spiral out of control. Follow Kerry as she deals with life and fashion challenges, whilst trying to save the world in this hilarious sequel to I Wore Heels to the Apocalypse.

My favorite lines this week:

✿✿ SUNDAY ✿✿

“What are you doing?” I pounded my fists on his back, which clearly made no impact on him at all. “You can’t leave her with an army of ninjas!”

“Oh, I can!” He laughed, tossing me into the boot of a big black car. “There’ll be no living with her if you don’t follow her combat instructions, trust me, she’ll be fine.” He dropped the badger in next to me and slammed the lid before I could object.

“Well, this isn’t ideal…” the badger said as we drove away.

✿✿ MONDAY ✿✿ (Read for the first 1/2 hour, the 2nd stretch was while I caught up on Supernatural)

Carlos threw his arms around me, in what I can only imagine was immense relief and held me for what seemed like an unnecessarily long time.

“This is getting weird,” the badger observed from under the bench. “Want me to bite his ankles?”

✿✿ TUESDAY ✿✿

Well, you’ll need a costume,” the creature observed thoughtfully. “With a cape. Everything’s better with a cape.”

“You’re not wrong,” I said…

✿✿ WEDNESDAY ✿✿

“What have you learnt?” I asked, leaning on the bar and facing the opposite direction to him. I felt super cool, although the whole pigeon thing was still stinging.

“Nothing useful, Peter shrugged. “Only that his flirting technique is in some way akin to a silverback gorilla, only less alluring.”

✿✿ THURSDAY ✿✿

“Kerry.” She pulled me towards her and kissed me. Suddenly, for a brief moment everything was perfect.

✿✿ FRIDAY ✿✿

I leaned back in bed and pushed my hair out of my face. How did this even happen? One day I was a web developer with a marginally successful business and limited self esteem, and now I was a superhero with a supersonic sidekick and no knickers, being held hostage by some sort of supervillain. Could things get any weirder? As if to answer my question, a second later Sam appeared in front of me. She was wearing some sort of rubber all in one that could not have been comfortable.

✿✿ SATURDAY ✿✿

“I didn’t know you had a hamster,” Tyrone observed, peering into the cage as he stripped out of his wetsuit.

“I don’t,” I said, putting a carrot in the cage.
