Treadmill Goals/Tracking
- Get on the treadmill (or equivalent exercise) daily
- Pace is fine at 30 min/mile, although I may up it on occasion
- Time range between 30 minutes and 1 hour per day
- Distance 1-2 miles per day
- Read the chosen book, which I won’t allow myself to read outside of my treadmill time, hopefully motivating me to reach or exceed the above goals (exception…at the end of the week where a book is highlighted, I will finish it off-treadmill so I can feature something new the next week)

What I’m Reading
Note: Although I will try to avoid them, my weekly reading snippets may or may not contain spoilers, so read at your own risk.
Stephen Hunt’s having a terrible holiday season. It’s mid-December, and he’s about as far from the familiar scholarly walls of his Oxford professor’s office as he can get — Southern California, in fact, for an academic conference. Back home, his ex-boyfriend’s moved out, and Stephen’s alone and miserable in the hotel bar with his research on obscure ancient Roman holiday traditions. The bartender’s adorable, though, so at least that’s a good distraction from his thoughts.
Brian Dwyer’s a very good bartender. Good at making drinks and having holiday spirit, good at talking to customers, good at making people smile. He’s decided that the gorgeous but unhappy professor at the end of the bar definitely needs to smile. And once Stephen opens up and starts talking to him, Brian just might be in love with historical trivia, knowledge and passion, and those soft brown eyes. And if the night’s one of those decadent ancient holidays that Stephen knows so much about, even better — they’ll just have to find a way to celebrate together.

Now living in Los Angeles with former navy SEAL Nick Reno, artist Perry Foster comes to the rescue of elderly and eccentric Horace Daly, the legendary film star of such horror classics as Why Won’t You Die, My Darling?
Horace owns the famous, but now run-down, Hollywood hotel Angels Rest, rumored to be haunted. But as far as Perry can tell, the scariest thing about Angels Rest is the cast of crazy tenants–one of whom seems determined to bring down the final curtain on Horace–and anyone else who gets in the way.

✿✿ MONDAY ✿✿ Revelry by K.L. Noone (No, the short story didn’t take that long to read, the rest of the time was because I stayed on the treadmill to catch up on the most recent episode of Supernatural.) – So many good quotes to choose from. Nell Iris already snagged a bunch of them when she featured the story on her Advent calendar post the other day, but here’s one she missed:
You might get sick of me. We might have a fight about the best eighties band of all time. I might literally embarrass you to death by kissing you in public after a conference session. We don’t know.”
“None of those, I think.” Stephen gave up and moved the arm; Brian was smiling at him. “Unless you somehow refuse to appreciate Duran Duran, who are indisputable musical geniuses. You said you’d come. Tomorrow.”

Even after ten months, that unstinting…what the hell would you call it? Sweetness sounded too sappy, but there was something so honest, so generous in Perry’s responses. It made Nick’s heart feel too big for his chest. Closed his throat so that he could rarely say the things he wanted to say, things that Perry deserved to hear.
I love you. It scares me how much I love you.
Instead, he said gruffly, “Where the hell have you been at this hour?”

Nick gave a funny groan and scooped Perry up the way he did sometimes, carrying him over his shoulder to the bed and dropping him on the mattress.
Perry laughed up at him. He loved it when Nick got playful and pretended to roughhouse him. Underneath his hard exterior, Nick was a very gentle guy. Although when Perry had told him so, Nick had burst out laughing and said, “Only with you, kiddo. Only for you.”

Perry lifted his head, said incredulously, “Are you saying you don’t care if I’m not here for Christmas?”
Nick growled. “Of course I care. That’s not what I’m saying. But if you’re feeling homesick—”
“You’re my home.”
It closed Nick’s throat. For a moment he couldn’t get any sound out. Finally, he squeezed out, “Okay. Same.”
Perry snorted. “You old romantic, you.”
