#RainbowSnippets – Feb. 16, 2019 – The Contingency Plan

I’ve joined the Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook. From their description: “Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).” Pretty cool, eh? Don’t forget to “Like” my Facebook page and/or my Facebook profile while you’re over there checking out this fantastic group!

I don’t have any new releases in the near future, so this week I’m sharing a random snippet from The Contingency Plan since I missed out sharing snippets from that to pimp JMS’s Top Ten Gay Romance anthology (which includes this novelette) that came out at the end of December.

The action in this snippet comes shortly after the place my teaser excerpt left off with Prince Efren shocking Prince Marcelo into a dead faint by choosing Marcelo to become his spouse to seal a treaty between their kingdoms. In this snippet, Marcelo has woken in his private chambers and just learned from his father that Prince Efren is who’d carried him there.

From Prince Marcelo’s 3rd-person POV:

The Contingency Plan

The cup slipped from Marcelo’s hand and clattered to the stone floor, spilling water as it rolled, clinking across the room. And now Prince Efren had shocked him a second time. Naturally, Marcelo had assumed servants had carried him.

An unfamiliar tingle raced through his body at the thought of being held by the prince in such an intimate manner. Or was it caused by remembering the curious half-smile when the prince had let Marcelo “win” the stare-down, or the way he’d looked confidently into Marcelo’s eyes when he’d announced his choice?

Blurb & Links

A sheltered prince. A sudden death. An unexpected choice. How will Prince Marcelo react to discovering he’s The Contingency Plan?

For eighteen years, there has been peace between Sheburat and the kingdom of Zioneven. The untimely death of a princess throws the marriage arrangement—the final phase to complete the terms of the treaty—into disarray, and the contingency plan is put into motion. Now the Crown Prince of Zioneven gets to make his own choice from among the princess’s younger siblings.

As a rare royal son in the matriarchal sovereignty of Sheburat, Prince Marcelo grew up knowing he would never marry. Never. Royal sons did not marry. Period. Except, Prince Efren isn’t from Sheburat, and he has other plans.

  1. What his father fails to mention is how he was just slung over Efren’s shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Very unromantic-like.

I so needed this story to be longer.

    1. Hahaha…well, it happened offscreen since that story’s all Marcelo’s POV and he was unconscious at the time, but I picture Efren cradling him ever so lovingly. 😉

Not to worry (unless you’re Marcelo, in which case you’ve just been kidnapped), the story continues, and I’m in the midst of writing it (or rather, allowing myself to be distracted by alerts) as we speak!
