#RainbowSnippets – 2019-March 23 – Cultivating Love

I’ve joined the Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook. From their description: “Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).” Pretty cool, eh? Don’t forget to “Like” my Facebook page and/or my Facebook profile while you’re over there checking out this fantastic group!

This week I’m once again snipping from Cultivating Love.

For context, Ed and Joe’s life has recently been uprooted, and they are planning to move across the state to a small town. It’s crazy early in the morning, and Joe has just left to go take care of the farm Ed inherited, leaving Ed behind to pack up their home, etc.

Toggle open the spoiler tag for a quick and easy review of last week’s post in this same thread.

From Ed’s 3rd-person POV:

Cultivating Love - March 16, 2019

To hell with it. There were no witnesses, so [Ed] gave in and let go. Wet trails streamed down his face. How or when had it come to this? He bit his lip, salty with tears, and snuffled. What were they getting themselves into?

This week’s snippet:

Cultivating Love - March 23, 2019

This was way past the level where either of them could just walk away at the drop of a hat if they had a big argument. But that was good, wasn’t it? Joe had agreed they were partners and had been over-the-moon happy looking over the farm. If nothing else, he had Joe hooked with the farm.

His head ached, and he didn’t want to think about it anymore. He scrubbed his face with his palms and padded back to his lonely bed.

Blurb & Links

A man of few words, Joe is a hard-working farmhand who likes his simple, uncomplicated life. Ed is satisfied with his existence as an auto mechanic, but thrilled when an unexpected development in his life allows him to help Joe realize a dream.

It forces them, however, to reevaluate the casual, undefined nature of their relationship. They’re too macho to speak of love, and neither would acknowledge he doesn’t really mind when it’s his turn to bottom. When life throws them a curve ball, and the rules of their game get old, Ed tries to take every aspect of their relationship up a notch. Can Joe adapt to the open sentimentality Ed’s injecting into their relationship, let alone the new spice in their bedroom activities?

This is a previously published story that has been rewritten, expanded, and re-edited.

  1. ‘This was way past the level where either of them could just walk away at the drop of a hat if they had a big argument. But that was good, wasn’t it?’
    💞😁💞
Aww…bless him. They’re adorable. I love them, they make my heart happy❤

  2. Taking that big step that ties you in completely with someone is so hard isn’t it? Especially when you’re not entirely certain how deep their feelings run… hope their macho barriers melt away eventually 🙂
