What happens when thirst becomes an obsession that can’t be quenched?
Forty-year-old Zachariah Taylor prides himself on being the overprotective older brother of seven. He owns a successful bar, Zach’s Bar and Grill, in the quiet town of Riverside Falls and loves the life he’s built for himself. But as his siblings move on and find their forever partners in life, he’s starting to feel less and less needed—not to mention old. Suddenly, he’s finding it even harder to ignore the younger man who has pursued him for years, but the twelve years separating them is something Zach can’t seem to overlook.
Twenty-eight-year-old Drew Belford has been in love with the stubborn Zach Taylor for seven years. Sure, he was a kid when they’d first met, but what Zach is determined to ignore is the man Drew has become. Drew, however, is just as strong-minded and refuses to let Zach use their age difference as an excuse to disregard the attraction burning between them. He doesn’t need an overprotective older brother—he needs Zach.
When Drew begins to get unsettling messages from an unknown person, Zach feels helpless in a way he’s never felt before. How can he protect Drew from someone he can’t find? The thought of anyone hurting Drew unleashes years’ worth of pent-up desire Zach has had for the younger man. Is his thirst for Drew enough to protect him from the danger lurking in the shadows, or will the threat of the unknown be enough to dowse the spark of love between them—and silence Drew forever?
Warning – This book contains acts of violence which some readers may find disturbing.
☆ Author Interview ☆
Welcome, and thank you for stopping by! Tell us a little about yourself and your writing goals.
Thanks for having me! I’m Jaclyn Quinn and I’m the author of the Haven’s Cove and Beyond the Cove series. I live near the Jersey shore, which is where part of Beyond the Cove is located. I have about 6 more books planned for that series, but who knows where it will take me. I also have an urban fantasy in the works, but I have no idea when the first book will be done.
Congratulations on your new release. Please tell us a little bit about it. What’s your favorite aspect or part of the story? Do you have a favorite character? Who/Why?
Thirst for You is about Zach Taylor and Drew Belford. There’s a twelve year age gap which is hard for Zach to get past, but Drew has wanted him for years. This story was a little bit different for me. There was a stalker aspect to it that I’ve never written before. That was challenging, but I wanted to make overprotective Zach feel vulnerable and a little helpless for the first time. I needed Drew to prove he could take care of himself. Drew surprised me when I started writing. He’s brand new to the series, so I was worried that I wouldn’t connect with him and neither would readers. From the moment he came into the first scene, my fears vanished. I love who he became, how strong he is, his sense of humor, and how he flustered Zach.
What was the inspiration for your latest story?
It was, in part, YouTube. I watch some creepy things, and I wondered if I could actually write something like that. I liked the idea of putting Zach in a situation where, for the first time, he couldn’t protect someone he cared for because the threat was unknown. I also knew from the moment Zach was written into this world in Hard to Get (Haven’s Cove, book 2) that he needed someone who would challenge him. Here was this overprotective, pigheaded older brother who was stubborn, set in his ways, and maybe even feeling a little left behind, now that his siblings were finding love. I love opposites attract, so I knew the person who finally won him over would have to be someone that Zach never saw coming and who was persistent and refused to let Zach ignore what was between them. Drew embodied all of those things.
Did your story turn out as you’d originally planned, or did it veer off in another direction? For the most part, the story turned out as planned. I always welcome little things that take me by surprise. It’s my favorite part of writing. I love when I don’t know what’s coming next until I actually type it. I knew from the very beginning who the antagonist was going to be. Some of the storylines morphed as I wrote. Another book idea came from that, that I never saw coming and has a scenario I have never written. I can’t really say what, as that would give too much away. But I can honestly say, when I started out, that additional book was never even a thought in my mind, so in that aspect, the story went in another direction.
Tell us about something you learned while writing and/or researching this story.
YouTube videos about stalkers are so creepy! There were also some medical terms and situations that were new for me. Luckily, I had and EMT/reader who was a huge help with that process.
Choosing from among your own stories, which is your favorite book? Why?
That’s so hard. I feel such a connection to all of my books. If I had to choose, I think it would be Drawn to You, book 1 in this series. That story was really emotional for me. I had to tap into some pretty sad emotions and basically put myself in that situation, and it was really difficult to do. I think I challenged myself more than I ever had at that point, and I forced myself not to shy away from writing the heartbreaking things these men went through. It really affected me for some time after that. I felt their sorrow and their pain. It was overwhelming, but I’m so proud of how it turned out.
What was the most difficult part of writing this book? Why?
The most difficult part about writing Thirst for You was the stalker aspect. I really wanted to make sure the reader didn’t find out who it was until Drew did. This was so difficult, trying to leave clues that weren’t too obvious. Also, writing violent scenes was something I’d never done before. Not on this level. I just needed to make sure I scared myself, and then I felt like I was moving in the right direction.
Meet the Author
I have been an artist from a very young age. From drawing cartoon characters and evolving into portraits, making jewelry, photography, and now writing. I have an amazing support system in my family and friends and couldn’t be more grateful.
I live in central New Jersey, love summers at the Jersey Shore, rock music, wine, sexy men, and laughing a lot with my amazing friends and family. Sunday dinners at my parents’ house are crazy, hysterical and you can count on a movie quote…or ten…being thrown out. Insults between siblings is how we show our love for each other!
When I’m not creating, you can find me reading books from my favorite authors. I’m a hopeless romantic, starving for passionate characters and always craving that happy ending, whether in reading or in writing my own books.
