- Get on the treadmill (or equivalent exercise) daily
- Pace is fine at 30 min/mile, although I may up it on occasion
- Time range between 30 minutes and 1 hour per day
- Distance 1-2 miles per day
- Read the chosen book. I’m officially modifying my original rule of not reading the book-of-the-week off-treadmill. I’m usually going to look at length and try to divide it up somewhat evenly per day, even if that means either closing that book early (if it’s short) or continuing after (if it’s long).

What I’m Reading
Note: Although I will try to avoid them, my weekly reading snippets may or may not contain spoilers, so read at your own risk.
What I #amreading: Through the Inferno by Jessi Noelle
Firefighter Jason Merone was severely burned and injured when the building he and his best friend were in collapsed as they were rescuing a young child. Depressed and nearly inconsolable, it’s not until his home care nurse, Zoe Calder, spots the telltale signs of severe depression and confronts him that Jason finds the will to live.
A few weeks later, Zoe is sexually assaulted by a man she meets through a dating app, and when he’s caught and her transgender identity is revealed, Jason’s transphobic mother makes sure she loses her job.
Jason and Zoe stay in touch, as they’ve built a close friendship, but when Zoe’s home is torched, she runs for her life, leaving Jason feeling bereft from the loss of what he knows could be a lasting relationship. Jason learns that Zoe’s troubles aren’t over, and he must work to identify who’s behind it all in time to save her.
My favorite lines this week…
✿✿ SUNDAY ✿✿ (Jason’s POV)
More out of ingrained politeness than any real desire to meet the person who would be dishing out more pain than any human should have to bear in the name of healing. Jason inclined his head slightly. The angry skin at his neck screamed a protest. Zoe stood at the foot of his hospital bed and studied him closely.
He knew what she saw. A duplex’s master bedroom converted into a hospital room, the bed taking up most of the space. A charred gargoyle lying in the bed, skin oozing and peeling underneath gauze and pressure coverings, emanating smells with no polite description, covered by the industrial scent of the antiseptics working to keep infections—now the greatest threat to his life—at bay.
“Hi Jason,” Zoe said finally. “I’m here to help you while you recover. It’s going to suck, but I imagine you already know that.”
✿✿ MONDAY ✿✿ (Jason’s POV)
Zoe still waited, but her poker face was for shit.
Finally, Jason sighed and laboriously tugged the drawer in his nightstand open. Nestled innocuously among the detritus inside was the red-and-white Altoids tin holding his escape ticket. He gave the tin one last, longing glance, then turned back to Zoe as the taunting thoughts howled in impotent rage.
“Do you want to save two lives today?”
✿✿ TUESDAY ✿✿ (Zoe’s POV)
I didn’t give a single green shit from a burrito what my high-and-mighty father thought. This would be heralded as confirmation of every thunderous pronouncement of impending doom he had prophesied at me over the years.
✿✿ WEDNESDAY ✿✿ (Zoe’s POV)
Nice change of subject there. I knew there was something she wasn’t telling me. My stomach flipped with uneasiness. “Okay. Hey, no felonies right now, mmkay?”
“I have no idea what you mean, cher.”
“I’m saying be careful, Del.” If she got herself killed, I’d bring her back and kill her myself.
✿✿ THURSDAY ✿✿ (Zoe’s POV)
Jason stood and walked over to me. “You’re shivering,” he said. “Come here.” He held me as I buried my face in his chest and willed the fear-trembles to stop.
✿✿ FRIDAY ✿✿ (Jason’s POV)
His image was startling, and he understood that. Still, every double-take, every sharp breath that occurred as he passed felt like a branding iron to his heart, hurting him and marking him as different.
✿✿ SATURDAY ✿✿ (Zoe’s POV)
“What she’s saying, cher—” Delphine interjected. “—rather inelegantly, I might add, is that she now has an inkling of who you were before she met you. And in that knowing, she is profoundly moved by your sacrifice.”
In a word: gripping
In another word: fan-freaking-tastic
