The blog tour is over, and most of the expected reviews are in. I’m thrilled that my first foray into a science fiction topic has been so well-received! Here are a few excerpts from the reviews:
Wicked Reads – Angela – 5 stars
I didn’t expect to give this story five stars, largely because I didn’t expect that I would want to re-read it after I knew how their time travel played out, assuming the element of surprise would be gone. However, I’m dying to read it again already to see what clues I may have missed on the first read through, hence the five well-earned stars. Not only did Albright keep me guessing, keep me entertained, and made me a bit weepy eyed, but she also left me wanting to check out more m/m time travel romances.
Sharonica Logic – 4 stars
In “When are You,” Addison Albright did a wonderful job weaving a story of love, romance, family, mystery, and fighting to keep all those things no matter the odds.
Zakarrie – 5 stars
Addison takes a trope and makes it her own with a unique tweak that reinvents a well-worn wheel. It was a delight to discover that in Where Are You? she has done it again…with utmost aplomb.
Rainbow Book Reviews – Serena Yates – 5 stars (on the Goodreads post)
If you like stories about established couples dealing with unexpected challenges, if time travel is your thing, and if you’re looking for a fun read with more than one surprise, then you will probably love this novel as much as I do. It’s amazing to the very end and left a smile on my face.
Several Amazon reviewers left lovely, complimentary reviews:
Marlene – This is the best time travel book I have ever read. I have always enjoyed time travel books and this is on the top of that list.. This one took a very different outlook on time travel. Done in such a way that you thought it could be plausible.. So very well done.
JDHB – I really liked this story. As the name implies, there is time travel which brings to my mind Dr. Who. This story definitely brought some mixed emotions for me, but a better story would be hard to come by.
Patricia – This has got to be one of the most fantastic, fascinating, incredible, intense, fast paced, action packed, amazing, grab-you-by-the-feels, nail biting, keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat, unconventional, definitely different, completely unexpected, and totally awesome time travel takes I’ve read in quite some time. I was hooked from beginning to end, and would recommend getting this ASAP!!!
I’m probably jinxing myself saying this, but I haven’t seen anything less than 3 stars as of the scheduling of this post. The only real concerns ranged from not realizing it involved time travel (I honestly don’t understand this considering the title, the lower cover image, and statements in the blurb), to being disappointed that the story wasn’t all about a couple’s romance.
I do see how the opening paragraphs in the blurb could possibly lead one to think the story might be more about how they met and fell in love rather than simply setting up who the MCs are, but #sorrynotsorry, When Are You? is basically about an established loving couple and the drama/adventure surrounding their fight to find/rescue their young son.
Romance does indeed factor into and drive their decisions/motivations, and the early chapters set up the drama by introducing the MCs and important side characters via their meet-cute and additional scenes illustrating clues that’ll become important once everything hits the fan about seven years into their relationship. But it’s definitely not a pure romance, or even primarily a romance, despite the couple’s loving marriage being important to the story. Vinnie and Leo’s relationship prior to their son Oscar’s disappearance is not what the story is all about. Consider their courtship and the early years of their marriage to be essentially uneventful and not story-worthy (as in, detailing them would have been story filler, IMHO).
The consensus seems to be, that if you go into it expecting a story that is primarily a time-travel drama/adventure/mystery with romantic leanings and fun twists and turns, you won’t be disappointed!
They have to find him…but how?
A former member of an elite military special forces unit, Leo Bailey can handle anything life throws at him. Except maybe approaching a certain gorgeous, purple mohawk-wearing, heavily pierced artist. Not without his three eye-rolling wingmen along to push him in the right direction.
One look at the mouthwateringly muscled, military buzzcut-sporting man with the endearing blush, and Vincent Noland is in love. Or at least in lust. Love comes later. Then marriage…and sweet, adorable Oscar.
Life is perfect—the stuff of fairy tale happily ever afters—except for Arthur Fletcher, whose unsettling reactions to them threaten to upset the happy balance of their lives. But it isn’t Arthur who throws their lives into turmoil.
A freak event causes Oscar to go missing and leaves both men frantic to rescue their son. As they piece together the clues, they discover that Oscar isn’t somewhere. He’s somewhen. And Arthur Fletcher holds the key—or rather the glass beads—to their one chance of finding Oscar.
Will Leo’s training, Vinnie’s determination, and Arthur’s knowledge help them rescue Oscar, or is the little boy doomed to spend the rest of his life at the mercy of a primitive civilization? Could there be a third possibility?
