As I mentioned a couple days ago, Iâve started reading on the treadmill again (though not exclusively). Iâll start including the treadmill info in my posts starting this coming Sunday to keep me motivated (I already had this and the next book Iâll be posting sometime before then read before I started up on the treadmill again).
Iâm a fan of Ofelia Gränd/Holly Dayâs books and have a long backlist of them to catch up on. This one caught my eye recently along with another from Ofeliaâs (standalone) Up North series that I plan to read in the coming weeks.
The main characters in this book are Jonas Raghnall and Abe Cooper, told in 3rd-person POV with each getting some time from their perspective. Jonas had some had some trauma with bullies in high school. Abe wasnât one of the bullies, but heâs tied to the incident so Jonas is triggered when he first spots Abe years later.
On to the snippets! They were chosen mostly because either they made me laugh or because they shows some lovely/subtle insight into the characters.
[Jonas is a bit obsessed with Mondays, and I think the variety of factoids dropped about Mondays throughout this story might be one of my favorite things! This scene is from Jonahâs POV.]
Tomorrow was Monday, his favorite day of the week. To be honest, he liked all the days of the week, but since Mondays had such a bad reputation, he figured they needed some extra love.

âIs it? Iâm pretty sure itâs Joe.â
Jonas raised an eyebrow. âItâs Jonas, has always been Jonas, will most likely always be Jonas. And Iâm pretty sure, since Iâm Jonas.â
[Jonasâs POV. AwwâŚ]
âEhâŚâ Jonas rubbed his chest, his heart needed to calm down. Perhaps seeing Abe every day would be a good thing. He grinned. Yeah, if he saw Abe every day it wouldnât be his past coming to remind him of things he wished he could forget, it would just be Abe. Abe Cooper whoâd given him shy smiles when no one else was around.
[Jonasâs POV. đ]
Shaking his head, Jonas gathered up the papers. âI might see you tomorrow, Mr. Cooper.â
Abe groaned and leaned against the copying machine. âGod, I love how you say my name.â
[Jonah is speaking with Sara, his office mate:]
âOkay, maybe you were right. He might not be a complete ass.â
With a mock gasp, Jonas touched his fingers to his lips. âYou like him.â
âI never said that.â
âNot a complete assâŚâ Jonas shook his head. âThatâs frighteningly close to approval.â

About My #Treadmill / #AmReading Posts
I started out with this being a Sunday thing, but sometimes Iâd rather not mash multiple books into a single post, so now, you never know when you might see one of these posts.
Rather than give a true âreview,â which Iâm not entirely comfortable doing as an author myself, I share snippets from books Iâve read and enjoyed, letting the authorsâ words speak for themselves.
As youâve possibly noticed, if youâve been following along, I highlight snippets for reasons of my own which might veer from what is often seen. Sometimes my highlights have more to do with a paragraph simply impressing the heck out of me for its fabulous writerly technique, other times it has to do with the lovely way it gives subtle insight into the story/characters. Still other times simply because it made me laugh.
Anyway, I sometimes add a little commentary, but not always, which is not in any way, shape, or form, to be taken as unwritten commentary. Most likely it just means Iâm short on time and/or my brain doesnât feel like putting out the effort in that particular moment.
Also, Iâm going to try to spread the book love by tacking on covers of more books at the end of the post that Iâve either recently read, am currently reading, or want to read. Not seeing a full post with snippets for any of these books is not a commentary on anything other than how much time I have available in a day either to read or to create a post about what Iâve read. It might also mean I listened to the audiobook only or that itâs a reread that Iâve featured previously.
