#Treadmill & What I #AmReading ~ Dear Diary by Holly Day

Treadmill ~ Fri., 30-Sept.

That’s a screen shot of my Apple watch workout that was recorded while on the treadmill. My goal is to read while walking on the treadmill for at least one 30-minute mile per day.

I’m finally caught up in posting about the books I’ve been reading! I’m going to try to keep current with my posting from here on out! I’m in the middle of a reread at the mo’.

I did a little off-treadmill reading for this book in addition to the treadmill workout shown.

Dear Diary by Holly Day

Despite the premise being about a diary written on the advice of his therapist by a man undergoing treatment for depression, it’s quite a bit of fun. I love his wry sense of humor.

This is the story of “Diary Guy” (who, if he’s named, I missed it even after going back in for a quick skim looking for it) and Lars, told entirely in the form of Diary Guy’s diary entries as he recovers from a depression he sank into after breaking off a long term relationship with his cheating ex.

They stand alone nicely without further commentary, so without further ado, here are a selection from the diary entries ❤️…

Dear Diary,

I know, I know, but I never agreed to do homework over the weekend. I didn’t do anything anyway, didn’t leave the apartment.

Today, I had an appointment with Janet. No sick kids saving me this time. She wants me to exercise.

E.X.E.R.C.I.S.E.

We were talking about my sleep habits or lack thereof, and she ordered me to work out for thirty minutes. And no, not thirty minutes total, thirty minutes every day.

Dear Diary,

I’m gonna kill Lars! Do you know what step class is? No wonder he’s fit. I thought I’d die, or at least puke. I haven’t been as out of breath since I don’t know when—years! And my legs have turned into overcooked noodles. I swear! When I’m walking, it’s like they won’t hold my weight.

Oh, he’s texting me now!

He wonders if I want to have dinner with him tomorrow after yoga. Did I say I was gonna do yoga? When did I say I was gonna do yoga? I’m as flexible as a refrigerator.

Dear Diary,

I’ve been swooning all day. Pathetic, but it can’t be helped. I went to the gym at the ungodly hour Lars suggested. I died several times over on the treadmill. No joke. Those machines shouldn’t be in a gym, they’re torture devices. Right then and there, I’d gladly have killed Lars.

He was on the treadmill next to mine, jogging away as if it was nothing while I was panting and sweating and cursing. He laughed a lot. God, he’s gorgeous when he laughs.

I was up most of the night, unable to sleep. I can hear your duh. Snip it! If you haven’t responded before now, this is not the time to start. Or it might be, but not with snide comments or sounds. I don’t know if I can handle snide comments right now.

About My #Treadmill / #AmReading Posts

I started out with this being a Sunday thing, but sometimes I’d rather not mash multiple books into a single post, so now, you never know when you might see one of these posts.

Rather than give a true “review,” which I’m not entirely comfortable doing as an author myself, I share snippets from books I’ve read and enjoyed, letting the authors’ words speak for themselves.

As you’ve possibly noticed, if you’ve been following along, I highlight snippets for reasons of my own which might veer from what is often seen. Sometimes my highlights have more to do with a paragraph simply impressing the heck out of me for its fabulous writerly technique, other times it has to do with the lovely way it gives subtle insight into the story/characters. Still other times simply because it made me laugh.

Anyway, I sometimes add a little commentary, but not always, which is not in any way, shape, or form, to be taken as unwritten commentary. Most likely it just means I’m short on time and/or context isn’t needed to understand what’s happening, and/or my brain doesn’t feel like putting out the effort in that particular moment.

Also, I’m going to try to spread the book love by tacking on covers of more books at the end of the post that I’ve either recently read, am currently reading, or want to read. Not seeing a full post with snippets for any of these books is not a commentary on anything other than how much time I have available in a day either to read or to create a post about what I’ve read. It might also mean I listened to the audiobook only or that it’s a reread that I’ve featured previously, or it’s not M/M so probably not a good fit for featuring on this blog.

Happy reading!
