King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate POV Switch Part 3

Promo - Teaser - King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate

So far I’ve posted the opening scene from King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate in two parts. This is the first part of the next scene. Links to the previous scenes can be found by clicking the Bonus Scenes tab in the menu at the top of the page. The published (FREE) short story is told entirely from Blaine’s POV. Using 1st-person perspective, here’s how George perceived this scene:

I opened the door to my apartment, and Blaine’s head swiveled as he cast his gaze around my living room. I mentally shrugged off the thought that perhaps he’d doubted my word when I’d assured him my apartment was clean, and put it down to basic human curiosity. Even so, I couldn’t resist a little poke.

“Told ya.”

“You’re a man of your word, George. I like that.”

I kept walking toward my bedroom, and Blaine stayed right on my heels. I stopped and turned when I reached the middle of the room. “I don’t suppose it would be a good idea to just rip that suit off you in a horny haze.” Not that I expected him to give me the go-ahead. I shuddered to think what the cost of the repairs would be. But, I had to admit, although I didn’t typically go for men who were as “high-end” as Blaine, he was damned hot in that getup. I made a quick adjustment, because my jeans were on the verge of becoming uncomfortable.

“I’d appreciate it if you managed to resist.”

I stifled a snort and pulled a straight-backed chair away from the wall. “Here…is this good enough to hang it on, or do you want me to dig a suit hanger out of the closet?”

“The chair’s fine.”

I walked into the bathroom as Blaine shrugged out of his jacket. I turned on the faucet and brushed my teeth. When I finished, I rummaged in the drawer for a spare toothbrush then stepped back into the bedroom. Blaine seemed like a hygienic sort, but even so, I tossed it through the air toward him.

“I like to kiss.” I added a wink, hoping he wouldn’t feel insulted, then pulled my T-shirt over my head.

Blaine stood in his shorts and undershirt staring at my chest, then he shook the deer-in-the-headlights look off his face and stepped into the bathroom. When he returned, I was down to my boxer briefs, folding down the bedspread. He smiled, I think at the sight of the fresh-looking sheets. I straightened and gave him a grin of my own. “It always bothers me when I go to someone’s place and the bed has more life growing on it than a Petri dish.” His smile widened, so I supposed my guess was right. Apparently, we had something in common. “Sex might be grubby, but the sheets don’t need to be—at least not ’til after.”

I removed his undershirt and tossed it toward the chair. His body was lean and toned. The sight of his smooth pale skin, essentially hairless except for the dark trail heading south from his navel sent a jolt of heat through me. His eyes widened, and his body stiffened slightly as I placed one hand on his jaw. He made no moves to indicate he was unwilling as opposed to just feeling a little awkward, so I moved in for a kiss.

His breath was minty-fresh, and his lips warmed as quickly as his body relaxed. His arms curled around my torso as he closed his eyes and seemed to melt in my arms. My skin tingled wherever his hands roamed. I deepened the kiss and cupped the back of his neck with one hand as his settled teasingly at my waist.

When I pressed our hips together, he moaned and opened his eyes. I broke the kiss, and my breath hitched as a grin stretched slowly across my face. My fingers lingered at his jaw.

“What?” Blaine panted.

I shook my head. “Nothing. Just pleasantly surprised.” Which was more than just a bit of an understatement. My heart raced, anticipating our next moves. I gestured toward the bed. “Come on. Skivvies off.”

King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate – POV Switch Part 2

Promo - Teaser - King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate

I kind of like rewriting various scenes from my published stories in an alternate POV to post here on the blog. If you check out the Bonus Scenes tab at the top of the page, you’ll find links to those, as well as other bonus scenes for some of my stories.

Today’s post is the second part of the opening scene from King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate. The first part can be found here. The published (FREE) short story is told entirely from Blaine’s POV. Using 1st-person perspective, here’s how George perceived this scene:

Mr. ‘Captain Morgan Rum and Diet Coke’ crossed his arms, and his jaw tightened with a scowl. The man hadn’t earned the money to buy that fancy suit by being stupid—he knew I was laughing at him. He sucked in a deep breath and slowly blew it out, then took a sip of his Skinny Pirate. “What’s your name,” he asked. “Or should I just call you ‘King Kong’?”

I laughed. It was good to know the guy had a sense of humor and could take a joke. “That depends. You wanna be my Ann Darrow?”

“Blaine will do fine, thanks.” Not bad. I’d half expected something like Preston or Bentley, but it still fit him well enough. Kind of like my name fit me.

“George. My name’s George.”

Blaine put out a hand. “Pleased to meet you, George.” It looked like I was maybe gonna to get laid tonight after all. I took his hand in mine. It was warm and dry—always a plus when you’re hopin’ to have those hands on your naked body in the near future. “So what do you do? Mechanic?”

I smiled and looked at the traces of grease embedded in my fingernails. “Never can get it all off, no matter how much I scrub.”

“It’s honest work,” Blaine replied.

I leaned back and considered the guy. Maybe he wasn’t as snobby as I’d supposed. “It is. Hard, sweaty, and grubby.” I grinned and went for broke. “Kinda like good sex.”

Blaine’s eyes widened a bit, but I figured it was a good sign his jaw didn’t drop, so I pushed on.

“How ’bout you, Blaine? I don’t get the impression you work with your hands.” That probably deserved an understatement of the year award.

“I’m an attorney.”

“I was gonna guess either that or some kinda corporate raider.”

Blaine smiled. “Well, I’m the attorney for a corporate raider, so you got a pretty good read on me.”

“There now, you see? We’ve got two things in common. We’re both pretty astute observers.”

“That’s one thing. What’s the other?”

I tipped my head to the side. “We’re both horny gay men.” I grinned again. “And here I’d just complimented your powers of observation.”

Blaine laughed. “You got me there.”

“So the question is, what are we going to do about it?” I figured I’d put the ball in his court since I’d already made my intentions clear enough. I didn’t have to wait more than a couple heartbeats for his reply.

“I believe this is the point where one of us asks, ‘your place or mine’?” Blaine tossed back the rest of his drink and raised his eyebrows.

Hell yes, I was gonna get laid. My smile couldn’t have been any broader. “I cleaned my apartment and everything, too.”

#RainbowSnippets – March 4, 2017 – Snapshots – Okay, Then

I’ve joined the Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook. From their description: “Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).” Pretty cool, eh? Don’t forget to “Like” my Facebook page and/or my Facebook profile while you’re over there checking out this fantastic group!

Rainbow

Today I’m giving another snippet from Snapshots, my collection/box set of 11 short stories. This one’s from Okay, Then, a short story that’s in the timeline of the flashback scenes from ’Til Death Do Us Part, detailing Henry and Sam’s first date. My apologies…many of my sentences here are very short, and I blew the sentence count out of the water to complete the mini-scene (word-count is on par with the average, I think). Further context isn’t needed.

This is from Henry’s 1st-person POV, and “he” is Sam:

He cocked his head to the side and stared curiously at me as I attempted a reassuring smile. His stance relaxed.

“You’re—” He cut off whatever he’d planned to say. His eyes widened and I got the distinct impression he’d been thinking aloud, and hadn’t meant to say anything.

“You’re what?” Because, really, it was better to find out now, before we fucked up our professional relationship beyond any hope of repair by, well…fucking…if there was something about me that bothered him. We’d been colleagues in the university’s biology department in Seattle for ten months, so we knew each other fairly well. I hoped to hell he wasn’t having second thoughts about dating me.

“You’re…you’re actually trying to impress me, just as much as I’m trying to do the same with you.”

I laughed and pressed a palm to my heart. I was so relieved to hear those words. “You’re damned right I am!”

His Henry-melting grin appeared, and I was lost.

Flash Fiction Friday – Photo Shoot Bonus Scene – 15 Random Prompt Words

Flash Fiction Friday

This week I’m using 15 random prompt words for my Flash Fiction Friday story scene. I got one word (coffee) from the comments of last week’s post, and 14 words (build – office – furtive – approach – near – upbeat – receipt – open – undesirable – string – pen – note – smell – lackadaisical) from a random word generator (I used a new one this week).

screenshot-2017-03-02-16-59-40

This week you’re getting a bonus continuation scene for Photo Shoot, one of the short stories in my Snapshots collection. This is from Eddie’s 3rd-person POV:

Eddie cast furtive glances down the halls of the fine arts building as he passed near the art department offices. The smell of coffee hung in the air, and an upbeat instrumental melody of mixed string instruments drifted out as he approached the open door to the studio where he was supposed to meet Trent.

Ever since posing for that nude photo shoot for his now-boyfriend’s project, he’d been reluctant to go anywhere near the department where the panel of instructors who’d passed judgment on the assignment might be hanging around, and—God forbid—recognize him. Trent knew it, too. He knew Eddie would come up with excuses if Trent asked to meet him anywhere in the building. He knew this from experience. That’s probably why he’d left a cryptic note written on the back of a receipt—so Eddie wouldn’t have the opportunity to come up with some pretext for not meeting him. He’d used that purple pen with ink that smelled fruity as if that would sweeten the deal. It hadn’t.

A woman walked briskly out of the room in question and did a double-take as she strode past. “Trent’s already in there. Go on in.” She turned the corner before Eddie had even registered she was talking to him.

Heat infused his face, and he stopped short of the door. He’d never met that woman before. How did she know he was meeting Trent? Had she seen—

“Eddie!” Trent appeared in the doorway, a huge smile on his face. “You made it!”

More voices drifted out of the room, so he could discount the notion that the woman had made a logical assumption based on Trent being the only one in there. “Yeah. You ready to go?”

Trent seemed confused as he scratched the side of his nose. “Go where?”

“Huh?”

Laughter and a middle-aged rail-thin woman wafted out into the hall. “Ah, there you are, Trent.” She smiled in Eddie’s direction. “And I see your Eddie’s arrived. Come in and join the party.”

Party? Eddie’s eyes widened, but Trent took his hand, possibly sensing Eddie’s urge to run in the opposite direction. “The department’s having a little celebration. One of the professors is getting married.”

“I’m Celia Hall,” the woman continued. “Has Trent had the chance to explain my offer to you, yet?”

Oh, dear God. Did he want to know? “Offer?”

“I need a model for my sculpture class. I think you’d be perfect.”

Perfect? The way Trent looked at him, he’d come to accept he wasn’t exactly undesirable, but he was hardly flawless. Of course, artsy folks maybe wanted imperfections to make things interesting.

“Oh, uh, geez. I don’t know…”

“It pays twenty dollars per hour.”

Eddie’s eyebrows shot up. His gaze darted to Trent, then back to Professor Hall. He opened then closed his mouth. Twenty dollars per hour? He could really use that extra money. He had to at least consider it. “Clothes?”

She shook her head. “Nope.”

His cheeks puffed out as he slowly released a stream of air. Could he really do it? He hadn’t thought he could handle posing for just Trent, but in the end, he’d felt comfortable enough. Maybe it was all about the attitude. He couldn’t walk in there all red-faced and obviously mortified, but if he could cultivate a lackadaisical mien, he could maybe bluff his way through the experience.

“Twenty, huh?”

She smiled, looking every bit like she knew she had him hooked. “Per hour.”

With a soft groan, he closed his eyes. When he reopened them, Trent winked. Bastard had no shame, whatsoever. Eddie’s “okay” sounded a bit whiney, but she didn’t seem put out by the tone.

“Wonderful. I’ll get your contact information from Trent and be in touch.”

Mission accomplished, she returned to the party.

How Trent managed to look so innocent standing there was a mystery. “You tricked me,” Eddie said, but the words lost some of their intended effect since he had trouble resisting a spontaneous grin in response to the thumb Trent was rubbing across his wrist.

“Aw, you’re too self-conscious. There was no reason for you to avoid showing your face in this building.” Trent leaned in to kiss his cheek. A delicious shiver rippled through him as Trent’s warm breath floated across his ear. “And, I’ll be sure to show you how much I appreciate you joining me here, later.”

Leave a prompt word in the comments, below, and I’ll use it in next week’s Flash Fiction Friday post. One word per commenter, please, up to 15 total.

Preface

I love short stories. Sometimes a brief “snapshot” taken from a couple’s larger story is all that’s wanted. The narrative of “how they met” is the focus of six of the shorts in this set—quirky tales ranging from meeting at a charity fundraiser, to college kids pranking each other, to a mishap at a XXX adult video arcade.

Also included is a story featuring a well-established couple’s wedding dilemma, a friends-to-lovers tale, a coming-out-of-the-closet drama, and a continuation short that follows one of those how-we-mets. Rounding out this collection is an account revisiting the main characters from my full-length novel, ’Til Death Do Us Part.

All of these stories are contemporary, although one has a bit of paranormal flavor to it. Heat ratings range from “fairly sweet” to “rather steamy.” Excepting the final story, all were originally written in 2008 and early 2009. One (“Photo Shoot”) started out as a prompt word ficlet that I later fleshed out to a more complete story. Each has received a thorough overhaul, some more extensive than others. I hope you’ll enjoy reading them as much as I did writing them.

Excerpt from Nevermore

Ted sat cross-legged on the rough, sand-covered beach towel as he watched Madelyn and Harris run toward him, dripping wet, sand covering their little feet. With the sun still high and bright in the western sky, he reached for a bottle of SPF 50 to reapply lotion to their pale skin.

“Aw, Dad, again?” Madelyn whined.

Ted laughed at his daughter. “Again and again and again.” He ruffled her hair as she sat beside him. He squeezed sunblock onto her outstretched hand, and she rubbed it on her legs while Ted worked on her back and arms.

“Close your eyes, sweetie.”

She turned her scrunched-up face toward him, and he rubbed lotion onto her face and neck, then gave her arm a light squeeze.

“All done, toots.” He smiled, and the six-year-old affected a dramatic “oh-I-am-so-put-upon” sigh, then scooted off to shovel sand into one of the buckets.

“I can do my own, Dad,” eight-year-old Harris claimed. He was growing up fast and insisted on doing as much as he could on his own.

Ted winked. “Except for your back, kiddo. I’ll do that for you.” He rubbed sunblock onto the boy’s back, then handed Harris the bottle to finish the rest.

“Daddy,” Madelyn said, “will you help me build the castle? It keeps breaking.”

“Your sand is too dry, Maddie. Fill the buckets with water first, and dump them in the sand you’ll be using.” She ran toward the water with a bucket in each hand.

Ted smoothed out a base for their castle, and Harris dug the moat that would surround it.

Madelyn returned with the water buckets and began mixing the sloppy sand. When the kids happily formed sand bricks and built up their castle walls, Ted lay on the towel and closed his eyes as he listened to their chatter.

A soft sigh escaped his lips as he thought about the fun he’d had with them. They all loved spending time at the beach. Maybe they’d go to the zoo tomorrow, or perhaps see that new Disney flick. Madelyn had dropped at least a half dozen not-so-subtle hints about the movie, so at least one of the kids was sure to be thrilled. He made the most of his weekends with them. Keri was fair-minded, and they were generally able to work out any modifications to the formal custody agreement to accommodate their schedules, but it still seemed there was never enough time with the children.

For this reason alone, he sometimes second-guessed his decision to seek a divorce, but in the end he knew it had been the right decision. He’d never been able to work up the courage to confess the full truth to Keri, and they’d parted ways agreeing that, for whatever reason, there was simply no spark between them.

He’d tried so hard in the early years, pretending an interest where one didn’t actually exist. He’d wanted to feel attracted to Keri, a beautiful person, inside and out. Ted was glad she was the mother of his children, and he was truly thankful she’d found happiness in a second marriage.

A smile tugged at his lips as a certain person came to mind, then he frowned. If only he had a stable relationship, which seemed out of the question. He’d pushed the man away yet again last night. Not literally, of course. No, they’d been plenty close. But once again he’d refused to share contact information or even his real name. How many times had they been together now? Thirty-five? Forty? And how many times had they sought each other out, haunting the same bar, and missed?

Ted’s hand wandered to his hip, where a fresh “love bite” lay hidden beneath his swim trunks. He shivered, visualizing those strong hands holding down his hips.

Living his life openly with this man by his side was a nightly dream, but it was a risk he wasn’t sure he wanted to take. How far would Keri’s reasonable nature stretch? If she knew the truth, would it put his visitation time with Madelyn and Harris at risk? Perhaps he should seek legal advice.

“Mr. Rhoads?” A young female voice brought him out of his reverie. Ted bit back a sigh and sat up to see which of his former students had discovered him. There were two of them, both from his third period history class the previous year.

“Rhonda, Megan, how are you girls? Are you looking forward to high school this fall?” He smiled at them. They’d been good students. They’d always gotten their work done, although they did like to prattle on in class when they were supposed to be working on group projects—typical eighth-grade girls.

“Yeah,” Rhonda replied. “Sort of. It’s kinda scary, you know?”

“You girls don’t have anything to worry about. You’re both excellent students. Are you enjoying your summer break?”

“Oh, yeah, lots!” Rhonda spoke up again. “We love the beach. Megan’s dad brought us here today.” She glanced behind Ted.

He stood and turned, putting out his hand to introduce himself. “Hello, I’m Ted Rhoads. Pleased to…” He froze, his jaw dropping.

There was a reason he drove an hour each way to a neighboring city when he felt like cutting loose for an occasional night of fun and debauchery, and it was standing right in front of him with a knowing, shit-eating grin spreading across his face. It wasn’t quite the same as the grin the man had been wearing just last night.

Today is release day for Snapshots, my collection/box set of 11 short stories, so I’m going back to that for my snippet today. This one is from Dropping Quarters, from Luke’s 3rd-person POV:

Luke took a lengthy draw on his beer and followed his buddies to watch some pool. He saw a few Tigers uniforms among the players. He glanced around the room, but didn’t notice Cato among them.

Fuck him anyway. Luke had given him two openings and the man had shot them down. Fine, so he likely wasn’t Cato’s type—not the end of the fucking world. He wasn’t stupid, and he wasn’t going to make a third play for the man, either.

King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate – POV Switch Part 1

I kind of like rewriting various scenes from my published stories in an alternate POV to post here on the blog. If you check out the Bonus Scenes tab at the top of the page, you’ll find links to those, as well as other bonus scenes for some of my stories.

This one’s the first part of the opening scene from King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate. The published (FREE) short story is told entirely from Blaine’s POV. Using 1st-person perspective, here’s how George perceived that scene:

I cast a side-eye peek at the guy who’d just slid onto the stool next to me at the bar, and the hope that briefly boosted my mood dropped swiftly away. He seemed a bit prissy, smoothing his hands over his suit. In other words, not likely to go for me, but it was slim pickins tonight, and he might be my last chance of getting laid.

“A Skinny Pirate, please,” the man requested.

Ben the bartender’s eyebrow shot up, but he kept his poker face. “Coming right up.”

I turned to give Mr. Prim and Proper a good look-see. He pointedly ignored me, turning to check out the clean-cut lookin’ yuppy-wannabe on the other side of him. I stifled a chuckle as the guy snubbed Mr. Starchy Pants.

My target’s suit looked pricey, not that I knew much about what suits cost, but I recognized well-fitting when I saw it. His hands didn’t look like they’d ever done a day’s hard labor in his life, and I’d have spewed my beer if I’d been mid-sip when I caught sight of his fingernails. I would bet my last paycheck they’d been professionally manicured. I’m not a total rube, I knew some men did that. I just hadn’t met one before, let alone considered hitting on him.

Ben put Mr. Swanky’s drink in front of him, and the man slapped some bills on the bar.

I knew the answer to my question, but figured it was as good an opening line as any. “Why’s that called a Skinny Pirate? Looks like rum and Coke to me.”

He sighed as if I was wasting the few precious seconds it would take to answer and swiveled on his seat to face me. Points for that, anyway. “Because it’s made with Captain Morgan rum and Diet Coke.”

He picked up his drink and spun on the stool, looking out over the room. He wasn’t going to find a hookup at any of the tables. They were all couples.

I turned on my seat and took a swig from my bottle of beer. “Not much hope out there. I’ve already scoped the place.”

Mr. Still-Hoping-for-Better-than-Me glanced at the guy on his other side.

“Preppy there’s got someone who’s going to be joining him.” I shrugged. “I already tried.”

The man heaved another sigh and looked me up and down, taking in my bald head, unkempt beard, and large, very hairy body, clothed in basic—but at least clean, if a bit wrinkly and weathered—blue jeans and a snug T-shirt.

I grinned. “Feelin’ desperate, are ya?”

He scowled. Fuck it. I might not end up getting laid, but I could at least have a little laugh at the expense of Mr. Straitlaced.

I waggled my eyebrows. “I showered and everything.”

☆ Blurb

Blaine is a well-dressed, high priced attorney, and George is a hairy mountain of an auto mechanic. This odd couple meets up one evening on a slow night at a bar. The pickings are slim. Slim enough for these opposites to eyeball each other and ask themselves just how bad they want to get laid.

Pleasantly surprised by the evening’s outcome, Blaine is faced with a dilemma. Should he throw caution to the wind and pursue George, or steer clear of that unexpected distraction to his carefully structured life.

Blaine sat on an empty barstool between a likely prospect and King-fucking-Kong. He lifted his chin, summoning the bartender as he ran freshly manicured hands over the textured cashmere of his Kiton pinstripe suit, smoothing out imaginary wrinkles.

“A Skinny Pirate, please.”

The bartender quirked an eyebrow but otherwise kept his face expressionless. “Coming right up.”

Blaine’s peripheral vision picked up movement to his left. King Kong was looking him over. He turned his head to the right, ignoring the hairy behemoth, to check out his hopeful hookup for the evening.

Maybe a couple inches taller than himself, the man was casually dressed in freshly pressed khakis and a clean navy polo shirt. His dark wavy hair was neatly trimmed, and his hands, while not professionally manicured, were well maintained.

The man concentrated on a Screwdriver, studiously ignoring him, though.

The bartender placed the drink in front of Blaine, and he slapped some bills on the bar.

“Why’s that called a ‘Skinny Pirate’? Looks like rum and Coke to me.”

Blaine sighed and turned to the muscle-bound hulk. “Because it’s made with Captain Morgan rum and Diet Coke.”

He picked up his drink and spun on the stool to cast his gaze over the room. No prospects. No singles, anyway. The patrons all appeared to be in couples.

King Kong turned on his seat and brought a domestic longneck to his lips. The man was big and hairy—except for his bald head—but basically clean, albeit slightly rumpled, in jeans and a snug T-shirt. Minute traces of grease stained his cuticles, and his beard could use a trim. A gold hoop glinted on his right ear lobe.

“Not much hope out there. I’ve already scoped the place.”

Blaine glanced at the guy on his other side. Maybe there was still a chance.

“Preppy there’s got someone who’s going to be joining him.” King Kong shrugged. “I already tried.”

Blaine heaved another sigh and took a more thoughtful look at King Kong. How bad did he really want to get laid tonight?

King Kong grinned. “Feelin’ desperate, are ya?”

Maybe not that bad. Fucker.

King Kong actually waggled his eyebrows. “I showered and everything.”

Blaine crossed his arms, and his jaw tightened. The man was laughing at him. Sure, he was picky, but he had a right to be, goddammit. He sucked in a deep breath and slowly blew it out, then took a sip of his Skinny Pirate. “What’s your name? Or should I just call you ‘King Kong’?”

The man’s laughter reached his eyes. “That depends. You wanna be my Ann Darrow?”

#RainbowSnippets Feb. 11, 2017 – Photo Shoot

This week I’m posting a snip from Photo Shoot (included in the upcoming box set, Snapshots). For context, Trent needs a nude model for a photography class project. Eddie has reluctantly agreed to help his buddy out by posing for the photo shoot. This is from Eddie’s 3rd-person POV, leading off with Eddie’s thoughts:

The bright bathroom lighting did nothing to help his faltering ego. Why hadn’t he thought to visit a tanning salon so he wouldn’t be so pale? The sparse dark hair centered on his chest and trailing down his stomach stood out starkly in the glow of the big round bulbs lining the large mirror over the vanity. The thick thatch between his legs contrasted so severely with his pale skin that it seemed almost obscene. His dick, barely peeking out in the center of it, was appallingly pallid. Christ. He’d been worried about embarrassing himself by springing a boner around Trent, but turtling instead seemed equally bad. No worse—far worse.

Blurb – Photo Shoot

Eddie’s a good guy who’d do anything for a friend, especially Trent, but that good-nature is sorely tested when Trent asks Eddie to be the model for a nude photo shoot. Trent’s grades depend on it, so of course Eddie agrees. It’s not easy being naked in front of the guy he wants. There are so many ways he could make a fool of himself. Why does Trent want to take pictures of him, and why does it seem that Eddie’s not the only one blushing?

The opening scene of Photo Shoot first saw the light of day as a ficlet written from a set of prompt words. I liked the potential in that story scene and fleshed it out into a more complete short story.

The first edition was published as a Torquere Sip on November 29, 2008, then a mildly reworked second edition reappeared as a self-published single on November 29, 2009. I took it (and the rest of my older works) down in the latter half of last year for a thorough overhaul.

Photos Shoot will be included in a box set of all my short stories titled Snapshots, to be released at JMS Books, LLC on February 25, 2017. One story from the set, King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate, will be released as a free single on February 18, 2017.

Snapshots Preface

This week I’m posting another snip from Now and Forever (included in the upcoming box set, Snapshots), a little further along from last week’s post. No context needed, in Warren’s POV:

“More what, baby?” Darryl’s voice was husky as he pressed his hips against Warren’s backside. “You want this inside you?”

Warren wished he had the restraint to tease Darryl back, but his level of self-control seemed inversely proportional to the state of his arousal, and he was very aroused. “Jesus, Darryl…yes…fuck me, goddammit,” wasn’t much of a tease.

He got what he wanted, though. Darryl’s hands clamped down where Warren’s ass met his legs, lifting and separating in a way that would have made Playtex bra engineers proud.

Blurb – Now and Forever

Darryl and Warren have been together twelve years when their home state of California legalizes same sex marriages. Darryl figures Warren should plan the wedding reception, but they disagree on how much party is too much. Darryl bites his tongue and gives Warren free rein, although he really wants something small and cozy. Will Warren be able to give Darryl what he needs?
