This month’s topic is…

Monsters!!!

I’m back! I skipped the last couple of months because life got busy. I moved. Everything’s mostly settled down now, so I’m trying to get back into doing some writerly things. The topic this month is monsters…books we’ve read or want to read, and/or a shout out to non-book monsters, too.

Honestly, this isn’t a topic that I have much to say about. I’m assuming we’re not encompassing vampires, shifters, or even aliens under the monster umbrella for the sake of this discussion and are just talking about other creatures? IDK, maybe I’m misinterpreting. If shifters and vamps are on the table, I’ll simply point you toward the vast majority of Holly Day/Ofelia Gränd’s backlist. If aliens are on the table, I’ll point at Lyn Gala’s books for my faves (particularly the Earth Fathers are Weird series).

Otherwise, I don’t make lists of what I’ve read complete with notes of what tropes are included in those books, and details become foggy after a while unless it’s one of those books I’ve reread to death. So, I’m finding the new trend for our group of picking a narrow sub-genre or trope to discuss our faves and want-to-reads to be trickier than I’d anticipated, especially when it’s not a category I’m particularly drawn to anyway.

But, I sifted through my iBooks app for anything that might qualify, and found one near the top in my “Want to Read” folder and remembered it catching my eye back when I was browsing box sets during a recent JMS Books sale. I flipped through a few pages of the book to make sure the title wasn’t misleading, and it does indeed appear to be about monsters.

As you can see, I’m a bit behind on my reading since some of these have been out for months. Nestled amongst these other lovely books is the monster-themed collection I’m hoping to read soon:

Monsters and Men Box Set by R.W. Clinger

As for non-book monster stuff I’ve gotten into lately:

Apple TV+ Series: Monarch, Legacy of Monsters

It’s such an intriguing premise with a fun twist!
