I’ve joined the Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook. From their description: “Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).” Pretty cool, eh? Don’t forget to “Like” my Facebook page and/or my Facebook profile while you’re over there checking out this fantastic group!
I almost skipped out this week, figuring I’ve promo’d most of what I’ve already published to death by now, and I want to get closer to publication time for my WiP before starting back in on that one. But then I remembered that the rules of Rainbow Snippets are pretty loose, and there’s no reason I can’t snip from some of my free flash fiction. So, that’s what I’m doing.
This week I’m snipping from Nathan & Anthony – Neighbor’s Yappy Dog. It’s a short and simple, cozy little scene written using the prompt, “neighbor’s yappy dog” (duh?). Anyway, if you like these opening lines and want to read the rest, it’s free right here on my website (once there, click the flashfic title to toggle it open on that page).
Context not really needed since these are the opening lines, but since the snippet cuts off before making this clear, I’ll point out that it’s a weekend morning, and Nathan is sleeping in (or trying to).
Although he’s not named in this snippet, this scene is told from Nathan’s 3rd-person POV:
This week’s snippet:
Yip, yip, yip!
“It’s my turn,” one of the kids—it sounded like Jeremy—hollered from the other room.
“Is not!” Georgie’s reply wasn’t exactly a solid gold debate winner, but in his defense, he was not quite three, and had learned his arguing skills from Jeremy. Needless to say, there was only one likely reply…
“Is too!”
“Boys, Dad’s still sleeping. Quiet down.” Anthony’s voice was calm as ever. “Georgie, it’s Jeremy’s turn. I’ll set the timer. When it dings it’ll be your turn again.”
Yip, yip, yip!
As mentioned above, if you want to read the rest of this short but cute flash fiction scene, just click here, then toggle open the correct scene (just over 1/2-way down the page).

😂😂
I’m so glad you posted it for this line alone. ❤ Oh, it’s adorable, I love it.💞
😁 Thank you so much! 💐
So cute! (heart)
😍 Thank you! 💞💖
Hahahaha love that snippet!! 😀
🌺 Thank you! As the person who gave me that prompt, I’m especially glad you enjoyed it! 💖
I’m happy to report that that dog (and the neighbor) has moved away now!! Ugh, it was annoying! 😀
Yay! 🎉
Nothing like a noisy animal and some rambunctious children to help one sleep. At least they’re not arguing in the same room as him.
LOL…true. 😃
Oh this is soooo familiar! Poor Nathan – good luck trying to sleep through squabbling kids and a noisy neighbouring dog! I’ll have to read the rest of this to see how it pans out, lol XD
Thank you! 😁 💞
Ah, adulting, commonly complicated by children. Nice snippet!
Thank you! 💖
Such a cute snippet!
