Timorn squinted as he studied the elven emissary, Arhlamanel dressed in finery, yet his stance and mannerisms were less refined then Ihel’s. He sensed deception. His ranger skill told him the elf was concealing something about his identity,

“I am aware of dragon riders, but not of a dragon king in Arenth,” Timorn said, turning to Eanna, his mother the First Consort, for confirmation. Eanna shook her head, also unaware.

Arhlamanel nodded. “The dragons are elusive and secretive, Your Majesty. Only a few high elves dare to venture up the perilous paths into the ice mountains to entertain them. It is treacherous as the dragons carefully guard the priceless gems within their lands.”

Timorn gripped the arms of the throne, leaning forward. “At DarkFall, we saw an adult dragon. A rider in black sat atop its monstrousg form. Luckily the brunt of its power was stopped before it could let loose with abandon.”

“It is as we heard. Thus, the dragon king requests you come to Akrisia, to the mountains in the North. He has sent me as emissary, in partner with the high elves, to bring you to hear his message. A party of your choice is invited to travel along, including one named Ethesian, who is also summoned. But be warned. One who wad banished many years ago has returned and is making inquiries in the dragon lands. He goes by the name of Dalannin. There is much suspicion amoungst the elves. Do you know of him?”

Timorn gasped. If Dalannin was with the dragons, that could only mean danger. Timorn spoke authoritatively, immediately deciding based on the elf’s report. “Yes, we know Dalannin, and yes, my party and Ethesian will accompany you to Akrisia. Lady Eanna will remain and keep watchful eye on the crown.”

“Yes, my lord,” Eanna acknowledged the decree.

“You must come dressed as a ranger,” Arhlamanel added. “That is how they will know you: by your clothes, your faerie daggers, and your sword. The dragon king and his half-dragon army will join you at the dragon court, high in the mountains. The trek up the expanse is arduous and will require a full day of walking to reach once we arrive.”

“Had Dalannin already recruited dragon riders to his cause? Timorn hoped for a negative answer.

“Unknown your Excellency. I hope, for our sakes and all of Arenth he has not.”

☆ Character Interview ☆

Introduce yourself, My Lady, what brings you to The Saint Elias Pub?

You flatter me, young man, I am called Ethesian, second daughter of Lady Eanna the first consort and King Ailon ruler of Itheria, mistress of the dragon lyre.

What is your profession, if I may ask?

Good man, profession? You surely belittle me, I am the second daughter to the king, my role is to be example for the nobility and present Lady Eanna’s missives to the noble ladies at court. That, my good man, is enough profession for me, the entire royal court heeds my words.

You seem quite young, traveling alone? What brings you to Ekhrine?

I am accompanying my brother, the king of Itheria to the elven capital of Akrisia. I dare not travel alone as a woman of station. A party accompanies me and ensures my safety thought that carriage, is a menace. Wven now my dress is ripped, how my brother makes me travel, so deplorable.

There is dark magic lurking since the anniversary of DarkFall when the Valkyris attacked Kannon, what have you heard of this recent news?

The Valkyris and her demons are treacherous, indeed. I have my magic, I will soon use it, if I must. Though, I hope we encounter no issue on these roads. I wish to travel quickly to Akrisia and return to the safety of the faerie palace at Kannon.

Tell me a little about your parents?

Lady Eanna, my mother is the first consort to King Ailon. I long for my father, now that he has passed. It is lonely in the palace without him. Here look at my locket, it holds a picture of him and my mother, it allows me to keep them both close to my heart. King Ailon was noble indeed and an excellent ruler, he kept Kannon safe even after the Valkyris attached at the original DarkFall. On that murderous day, I was just newly born, I survived it, but because I am female, all the male faerie newborns were killed. I love my mother dearly she has taught me much about faerie court, and her teachings have allowed me to keep my station and quell the petty bickering of the noble ladies, so irritating the games they play.

Tell me a little about your magic?

I am a dream seer which means I can see beyond reality and foretell the future. I use this magic to provide counsel for my brother Timorn, the king of faerie. I also play the dragon lyre, a magical female instrument that provides healing and soothing music. With these gifts, I can enhance my power with the dragon’s heart crystal which amplifies my magic and though dangerous, I have seen through the seeing eye crystal as well.

How does your magic make you feel?

The magic is glorious and makes me feel alive.

What is your favorite pastime?

Combing my hair and fixing it into luxurious styles which my servant Krysia helps with, and passing the time playing my dragon lyre.

What was your role at the battle for DarkFall?

I banished a dragon destroying the town with the dragon’s heart crystal at DarkFall. It taxed my strength but the faerie gods heard my prayer and blessed me with their magic.

What’s it like to work for such a demanding writer?

Natsuya demands much. He wrote The Seer of Ice and Sky during NaNoWriMo in a week and then he demands I keep up with him. Often I do not play, he has to answer to me. I cooperate when I am good and ready and not before. I am the princess here, just like at the faerie court, I will not be ordered around! But, I respect him and he listens well, so I tease often but cooperate as much. He gives me leeway to do what I need when I want to and does not question, even when I have to fight him on things. So, sure, I will tolerate him, for now, then if he does not heed my words he will feel the wrath of my rapacious tongue.
