TREADMILL Week 188 & What I #AmReading – Missing Pieces series by N.R. Walker

Treadmill Goals/Tracking

  • Get on the treadmill (or equivalent exercise) daily
  • Pace is fine at 30 min/mile, although I may up it on occasion
  • Time range between 30 minutes and 1 hour per day
  • Distance 1-2 miles per day
  • Read the chosen book. I’m officially modifying my original rule of not reading the book-of-the-week off-treadmill. I’m usually going to look at length and try to divide it up somewhat evenly per day, even if that means either closing that book early (if it’s short) or continuing after (if it’s long).

What I #amreading: Pieces of You & Pieces of Me (Missing Pieces Series 01 & 02) by N.R. Walker

Pieces of You

Dallas Muller has everything he never expected he’d have. He owns a successful motorbike mechanic shop in Newcastle, and he’s madly in love with his boyfriend of four years, Justin Keith.

Justin has always struggled to find where he fit in, never realising his true worth or what it means to be loved–until he met Dallas. Living and working together might be too much for some, but Dallas and Justin wouldn’t have it any other way.

When a terrible accident tears their world apart, Justin’s left with no memory of Dallas or their relationship. Trying to put the pieces back together is almost impossible when some pieces are blank and some are missing altogether. Dallas has to let Justin find his own way back to him and just hope that their love will light the way.

Pieces of Me

Justin’s recovery is slow, but any step forward is a win in Dallas’ eyes. Having always been a source of strength for Justin, even before the accident, Dallas is trying to find his feet again as he struggles to get some normalcy back in their lives.

But now, with added financial pressures and Justin’s ongoing medical needs, Dallas isn’t sure how much longer he can be the strong one.

As missing pieces of Justin’s memory return, Justin realises the physical side of their relationship is another piece of the puzzle he desperately wants to put back together. And as he gets to know Dallas all over again, he realises what his mind can’t remember, his heart can’t forget.

My favorite lines this week…

✿✿ SUNDAY ✿✿Pieces of You

No, there was no life flashing before my eyes, no profound moments of clarity. As the grille of the truck came at me, my very last thought would have been funny if it hadn’t been my very last thought.

Oh, that’s just fucking great. The song’s just getting to my favourite part.

✿✿ MONDAY ✿✿Pieces of You

I didn’t want to question it. I didn’t want him to stop it or second guess himself. I’d take anything he could give me, and if that was a slight quirk of his lips, I’d gladly take it.

✿✿ TUESDAY ✿✿Pieces of You

I laughed and pulled out a seat next to him, then opened the first pizza box. “You’re meatlovers,” I said, sliding it closer to him. “And my chicken and pineapple.”

He stared at me, wide-eyed. “Okay, what the hell? Chicken and pineapple? How were we together?”

✿✿ WEDNESDAY ✿✿Pieces of You

Justin’s face crumpled. “It’s all I want. Just something. I don’t care about the goddamn fridge. I want memories of you,” he said, his expression so vulnerable. “And I want to feel what goes with it. That’s the hardest part. It’s not just losing the memories. I lost the feelings as well, and I want that back.

“Oh, Juss,” I said, putting my hand to his face. “We’ll get back to that. You fell in love with me once, what’s to say you can’t love me twice?”

✿✿ THURSDAY ✿✿Pieces of Me

“You keep staring at me,” he said. He was now standing by the stove, stirring the pot. The smell in the flat was amazing, and seeing him concentrate and taste, adding a bit of this and a touch of that, and stirring some more just made me so damn happy.

“Because you’re kinda great, you know that?”

✿✿ FRIDAY ✿✿Pieces of Me

He told me he loved me.

So what if he was asleep? His sleeping brain had let a truth trickle out, and I was gonna hold onto that forever.

✿✿ SATURDAY ✿✿Pieces of Me

All he’d ever wanted was to feel loved. To be held, to be protected and safe; everything that had been lacking in his life, everything his mother never gave him. So, even though he was out like a light, I held him a little tighter. “I love you, Justin Keith.” I planted a soft kiss to his forehead and closed my eyes. “Always have, always will.”
