RAINBOW SNIPPETS – Change of Plans – May 1-2

15

Have you discovered the Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook yet? I’ve recently become active there again in hopes that it’ll motivate me to stay active working on this WiP!

From their description: “Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).” Pretty cool, eh? Don’t forget to “Like” my Facebook page and/or my Facebook profile while you’re over there checking out this fantastic group!

This week I’m continuing to snip from Change of Plans, a novella-in-progress following The Contingency Plan and The Best-Laid Plans.

For context, Efren has awoken to discover an unknown man in his bed.

EDIT May 10, 2021 – I’ve updated the snippets behind the spoiler tags to reflect changes made to the manuscript to date.

Click the spoiler tag(s), below for a quick review of preceding snippets in this thread:

This Week’s Snippet:

Change of Plans - Chapter 1 - Snippet 7

The man’s breath quickened further, and he spun before rushing to the window to throw open the heavy draperies. The sun was reflecting off Zioneven’s majestic mountains to the northeast with the sun just clearing the horizon south of where the range tapered off.

Objectively a beautiful sight, but the young man recoiled with an alarm that had ratcheted up several notches. He wobbled as he whirled in place. “Where—?” He gulped. “Who—?”

A twinge of concern prickled Efren’s neck. The man’s distress went beyond what one would expect from waking in a stranger’s bed.

Far beyond. He’d reacted as if the scenery was completely unfamiliar.

“Where are you from?” Efren asked.

“Where am I?” the young man countered.

I still don’t have a blurb, but here’s a limerick 😁:

There once was a handsome young prince,
whose naïveté made himself wince.
He was a huge fan
of “The Contingency Plan,”
till a drug turned his memory to mince.

I’ll probably have an actual blurb within a week or two. I’d hoped to write the words “the end” by the end of April, but I’m going to need Saturday (and possibly Sunday) to finish up. I’m THIS close, though. Currently the novella is sitting at 27,621 words.

In case you missed the beginning of Marcelo and Efren’s relationship—or perhaps I should say their first time around—here are some handy links (because although I always try to write sequels so random readers won’t be completely lost, this series will be best appreciated if all the stories are read in order):

The Contingency Plan

A sheltered prince.
A sudden death.
An unexpected choice.
How will Prince Marcelo react
to discovering he’s…
The Contingency Plan?

A death that wasn’t
what it seemed.
A kidnapping that isn’t
what it seems.
Time is running out.
