READ AROUND THE RAINBOW ~ This or That, Reader Edition #RAtR
It’s the last Friday of the month and you know what that means! It’s ᖇEᗩᗪ ᗩᖇOᑌᑎᗪ TᕼE ᖇᗩIᑎᗷOᗯ time!

This month’s topic is…
This or That, Reader Edition
In which we answer some or all of a list of readerly “this or that” questions with short-ish responses ranging from a single word to however many words are necessary.
NOTE: I am very eclectic reader and I’m going to be wishy washy and state that for most of these I am perfectly fine with either, but my answer reflects what my choice would be if I were in a situation where I had to settle on only one or the other for the rest of time.
THIS: LGBT self-discovery story
THAT: They’ve always known (or have already figured out) they fall under the rainbow umbrella
I think I’ll go with THAT for this one, since it seems like there would be more in the way of variety available.
THIS: No spice
THAT: It’s all about the spice
THIS for sure, if it must be one extreme or the other. My first choice would probably be somewhere on the lower half of the spectrum between the two.
THIS: Speculative Fiction
THAT: Contemporary & Historical
This is tough, but I guess I’ll go with THIS since SpecFic can encompass stories that very much read like Contemporary and Historical along with extremes in speculation.
THIS: Pure romance
THAT: There’s a romantic subplot to the story
THAT is definitely my preference. I enjoy pure romances, but really light up for a fuller story that also has a romance building alongside the main plot.
THIS: eReader/Audiobook
THAT: Physical book
THIS. That said, I try to collect as many of my favorites in physical book form, too, but even so, when I reread them, it’s usually in the more convenient eReader/Audiobook form(s).
THIS: Read indoors
THAT: Read outdoors
THIS, I guess, since the weather around here is rarely tolerable, and I suppose when it is nice enough, I could open a window. If I could put a bunch of restrictions on it about weather temperature, humidity, bugs, etc., I’d probably go with THAT.

THIS: Short book
THAT: Long book
I really want to say whatever fits the story for this one. I don’t want filler just to make it a long book, but that said, I probably prefer a well-done THAT…a longer more in-depth dive into a story.
THIS: 1st person
THAT: 3rd person
I want to just say “well written,” because beyond that, I don’t much care. Tense-wise, I do lean heavily toward past tense as opposed to present tense, yet a few of my favorite books are told in present, so I don’t flat out hate it. But if forced to pick between the two perspectives, I will say 3rd person (but I want to clarify that regardless, I prefer to stay in only one character’s POV unless there is good reason to do otherwise).
THIS: Series
THAT: Standalone
Either, but under duress I’ll say THIS.
THIS: Tear jerker
THAT: A laugh a minute
THAT. 😁
THIS: Background music
THAT: Silence
THAT.
THIS: You can only read new books forevermore
THAT: You can only reread books you’ve previously read forevermore
Tough, but when I get in a reading rut, I always pull out old favorites and reread them. I would absolutely hate never being able to reread my faves, so I’ll have to go with THAT.
