This month’s topic is…

Would You Rather…?

The one where we answer three writer-themed “Would you rather…?” questions. ❤️

Would you rather publish one insanely great-selling book and never write again … or publish a string of 15 average-selling books over a 20-year period?

Back when I could feel like I had a good solid 20 years of writing left in me, I might have gone for the second of those options. Then again, maybe not? I like to read and or do whatever I feel like doing in the moment. As much as I enjoy writing out the stories in my head, it’s still a lot of work to get it right if I’m doing it for publication.

I rather like the idea of giving my all to one story, then sitting back and relaxing and reading or doing whatever thereafter.

Would you rather be recognized wherever you go … or live a quiet (monetarily successful)  life of anonymity?

Hands down, a quiet (monetarily successful) life of anonymity. I’m extremely introverted and always a bit lost as to how to get along like a normal person amongst other people. What’s the right thing to do and say? What isn’t? I neither want nor need fame (though fortune wouldn’t be unwelcome).

Would you rather write in a rooftop garden surrounded by city noises … or in a quiet studio with cows as your neighbors?

I’m going to assume that “write in” translates to “live and write in.” Now, you’re going to think this answer is totally out of line with my first two answers, but truly, it isn’t. Because as long as I’ve got my own private living space (and especially with my own private roof garden), I love the idea of being able to go out in short bursts to the neighborhood bodega or grocery market, or even to wander further afield to visit museums and libraries and such.

All that within walking distance or a quick hop on a subway would be lovely. Having lots of people milling about doesn’t mean I have to frequently interact with them beyond paying for whatever I’ve bought, right? And people-watching can be fun and lead to good story fodder.
