From my short story, Okay, Then. For context, Henry and Sam have placed an order at the Mambo Juice in Honiara in the Solomon Islands. Sam has order a Vegemite and cheese toasted sandwich. Being from the US, this is not something they have experience eating in the past. This snippet is from Henry’s 1st-person POV, and Henry is the first speaker. “He” is Sam:
I stabbed a fork into my salad and watched with morbid curiosity as he bit into his sandwich. He grinned mischievously and took an extra-large bite.
“It’s not bad.”
“That’s not exactly a glowing recommendation.”
He laughed. “That’s a figure of speech. I kinda like it.” He held it out to me, waving it slowly back and forth. “Try it.”
The Love Is Proud charity anthology by JMS Books authors will be out July 30, 2016. My contribution is Okay, Then, a very short story set in the timeline of the flashback scenes from ’Til Death Do Us Part, chronicling Sam & Henry’s first date while on a research trip together in the Solomon Islands.

“Featuring work from more than forty different authors, Love Is Proud is a collaborative effort whose entire proceeds will go to Equality Florida to benefit the victims and their families of the Pulse nightclub shooting. All the work in the collection, including the editing, has been donated to offset the costs. This stunning anthology will be a charitable keepsake whose message of pride in who and how we love is an enduring testament to all those affected by this tragedy.”
