From my short story, Okay, Then. For context, Henry and Sam have placed an order at the Mambo Juice in Honiara in the Solomon Islands. Sam has order a Vegemite and cheese toasted sandwich. Being from the US, this is not something they have experience eating in the past. This snippet is from Henry’s 1st-person POV, and Henry is the first speaker. “He” is Sam:

I stabbed a fork into my salad and watched with morbid curiosity as he bit into his sandwich. He grinned mischievously and took an extra-large bite.

“So?”

“It’s not bad.”

“That’s not exactly a glowing recommendation.”

He laughed. “That’s a figure of speech. I kinda like it.” He held it out to me, waving it slowly back and forth. “Try it.”

The  Love Is Proud charity anthology by JMS Books authors will be out July 30, 2016. My contribution is Okay, Then, a very short story set in the timeline of the flashback scenes from ’Til Death Do Us Part, chronicling Sam & Henry’s first date while on a research trip together in the Solomon Islands.

  1. I don’t know, I think I would have replied with “it’s edible”. LOL. Love the light hearted teasing, and I love that you are writing this for the Love is Proud anthology, a very generous and kind gesture for the Pulse victims and their families. For that I say thank you for the heart towards the tragedy.
