TREADMILL Self Challenge & What I #AmReading – Legendary Loves, Volume 1

Treadmill Goals/Tracking

  • Get on the treadmill (or equivalent exercise) daily
  • Pace is fine at 30 min/mile, although I may up it on occasion
  • Time range between 30 minutes and 1 hour per day
  • Distance 1-2 miles per day
  • Read the chosen book. I’m officially modifying my original rule of not reading the book-of-the-week off-treadmill. I’m usually going to look at length and try to divide it up somewhat evenly per day, even if that means either closing that book early (if it’s short) or continuing after (if it’s long).

JMS Books’ Trios are themed collections of three gay romance stories by a trio of authors. Each story is available separately, but readers can get all three for a discounted bundle price.

Legendary Loves Volume 1 contains three paranormal shifter M/M romances just in time for Halloween! Contains the stories:

Metamorphosis by Pelaam: When Ryker arrives in Puerto Rico, he doesn’t anticipate falling for the handsome and flirtatious Alejandro, who works at the hotel where he’s staying. There’s definitely something between them, and then Ryker uncovers a world he couldn’t have dreamed existed. He already knows he’s in love with Alejandro, but something dark and deadly is stalking him.

Pine Tree Mary by Ofelia Gränd: What should be a simple chase drops Detective Quinn Manning into a real-life world of myth and legend when he stumbles upon Hush, who is a hulder, a pine tree Mary. His people live in the forest and feed off energy of passing humans. When Manning’s partner disappears, he needs Hush’s help. While working together, their connection grows, but can a human have a future with a creature of the forest?

The Pooka’s Share by K.L. Noone: Aidan’s on an easy Magical Enforcement Division case: stolen apples. But the apple-thief faerie-horse shifts into gorgeous young man, Ink, who left his herd to find adventure. He likes Aidan’s hands, and that enchanted bridle, on him. But ritual magic and complicated powers collide, and the family legacy Aidan’s avoiding becomes important, but maybe not as important as keeping Ink in his arms.

My favorite lines this week…

Note: Pine Tree Mary was the longest of the three stories, so that’s why it got three days while the others each got two. I read on Saturday despite mowing instead of using the treadmill, and even added on a bonus short story read.

✿✿ SUNDAY ✿✿ Metamorphosis by Pelaam (Ryker’s POV)

“He didn’t smile like that at me this morning.” Mitch leaned in and whispered directly into Ryker’s ear.

“What?” Ryker stared at Mitch.

“You heard.” Mitch’s expression was insufferably smug, but somehow, Ryker didn’t care. “He said hello, asked if I’d slept okay, then wanted to know if you were all right, when you were getting up, would he see us later. Us,” Mitch snorted. “Yeah, right. I’m hedging my bets on which one of you will drool first.

✿✿ MONDAY ✿✿ Metamorphosis by Pelaam (Ryker’s POV)

“What?”

“Don’t know.” Alejandro shrugged, then laughed softly. “You look like you’re glowing. Like you’re lit from within. It’s beautiful. You’re beautiful.”

If anyone else had spoken to him in that way, Ryker was quite sure he’d be making gagging noises. But from Alejandro, it was just…different. Genuine. Ryker relaxed.

✿✿ TUESDAY ✿✿ Pine Tree Mary by Ofelia Gränd

He could allow himself to fade, to wither and die. It would be easy, a couple more days, and he’d be gone, but there were moments worth living for. Moments when the woods were peaceful, when the animals shared their serenity, when the stream was warm and the moss soft under his body.

✿✿ WEDNESDAY ✿✿ Pine Tree Mary by Ofelia Gränd

“You’re so goddamned beautiful. Strange, but beautiful.” His voice had changed, it was deep and raspy and it had Hush shivering. Manning touched his hair, gently pulling so Hush had to tilt his head upward. He held his breath as Manning’s lips touched his. Energy sparked, a delicious warmth coursed through his body, and he moaned.

Energy had never been this pure.

✿✿ THURSDAY ✿✿ Pine Tree Mary by Ofelia Gränd

He closed his eyes and scanned the area for a bird. His mind brushed up to a cat. Cats were almost worse than birds, but Hush tried to gently slip by the defenses guarding the cat’s intellect.

The cat gave him a mental scratch before lending him its eyes.

✿✿ FRIDAY ✿✿ The Pooka’s Share by K.L. Noone

Aidan, hearing that implication in the back of his head, said again, “I’m still doing my job.”

“Which you’ve done. You’ve caught me, you’ve scolded me. I’ve been properly scolded.”

“Have you?”

✿✿ SATURDAY ✿✿ The Pooka’s Share by K.L. Noone

The sense of rightness, of belonging—not a herd, but a partner; not an obligation but a choice—sank into his bones. His soul.

✿✿ SATURDAY BONUS READ ✿✿ October Spice by K.L. Noone

Evan spun that way. An arriving boulder loomed beyond the glass, in parking-lot October sunshine.

The boulder waved. He had short dark hair and light brown skin and hopeful molten-cocoa eyes and the most massive shoulders in the universe under a shiny blue bomber jacket, combined with an unfair waist and enough height to make Evan feel positively tiny.

Evan felt other things too. Every one of his preferences about size and muscles and power sat up and took notice.
