Treadmill Week 71 & What I #amreading – Cutie and the Beast by E.J. Russell

Treadmill Goals/Tracking

  • Get on the treadmill (or equivalent exercise) daily
  • Pace is fine at 30 min/mile, although I may up it on occasion
  • Time range between 30 minutes and 1 hour per day
  • Distance 1-2 miles per day
  • Read the chosen book, which I won’t allow myself to read outside of my treadmill time, hopefully motivating me to reach or exceed the above goals (exception…at the end of the week where a book is highlighted, I will finish it off-treadmill so I can feature something new the next week)

What I’m Reading

Note: Although I will try to avoid them, my weekly reading snippets may or may not contain spoilers, so read at your own risk.

What I #amreading: Cutie and the Beast (Fan out of Water 1) by E.J. Russell

My favorite lines this week:

✿✿ SUNDAY ✿✿

That face. What kind of birth defect or unfortunate medical syndrome caused skull disfigurement that severe? He looked like the victim of a failed experiment on the island of Dr. Moreau who’d tried to get the results fixed at a cut-rate back-alley plastic surgeon.

✿✿ MONDAY ✿✿

Nostrils flaring at the mention of his father, Jackson shrugged without lifting his arms from the back of the love seat. “Trivial.”

✿✿ TUESDAY ✿✿

The kid ducked his head, pressing against his mother’s side, and peeked at David from the folds of her skirt. In his gray flannel shorts, white shirt, and red tie, he looked like a refugee from a high-end prep school, complete with a stylized red-and-gold crest on the breast pocket of his navy blazer.

✿✿ WEDNESDAY ✿✿

“I kissed David,” he blurted. “In the supply closet.”

“Flaming abyss, Alun. I’d no notion your technique was that pathetic.”

“Mal…” Alun pinched the bridge of his nose, fighting for control.

“Now me, I’d have kissed him someplace else. That delectable mouth, say, or that spot behind his ear, or—”

✿✿ THURSDAY ✿✿

David held up a hand. “Whoa, whoa, whoa. You mean as long as someone else lets Hello Kitty out of the bag, everybody can spill?”

✿✿ FRIDAY ✿✿

“It wasn’t what you said. It was how you said it. Your tone. Like beat poetry recited by really kinky angels.”

✿✿ SATURDAY ✿✿

“Druids,” Alun muttered. “Of course it would be druids.” He uncorked the bottle and tossed back the contents, nearly gagging as the bitter brew seared his tongue and bit the back of the throat. “Gwydion’s bollocks, would it kill them to make it taste less like hell hound piss?”
