It seems that other than my Saturday “Rainbow Snippets” and my Sunday “what I’m reading on the treadmill” posts, I’ve veered off the track of including things pertinent to my myself or own writing in my blog posts. For now I do plan to continue to sign up for promo posts for other writers’ new releases, etc. (although they do turn into a bit of a time suck), but I’m also going to intersperse it with a variety of other things. I won’t necessarily have a “Throwback Thursday” post every week, but I’ve got a number of weekday hashtag ideas that’ll (hopefully) be inserted a few times each week to supplement the outside promo bits.
Today, for #ThrowbackThursday I’m posting a snippet from one of my earliest short stories, Photo Shoot. A reworked edition is included in my short story collection, Snapshots, but it was first published back in November of 2009. The beginning of the story was first told in the form of a prompt word inspired bit of flash fiction. Some of those prompt words were dropped in the published form, but the general idea of the story remained the same.
With the towel wrapped securely around his waist, he took a deep breath and stepped out to face the music…literally. Trent had turned on his stereo to a rather sultry instrumental. Was that supposed to help him relax? Get him to move like a real model?
Trent pasted on a cheery smile. “Ready, Eddie?” Then he laughed. “I’m a poet and didn’t know it.”
Jesus, Trent could be corny sometimes. But Eddie laughed. Trent could always make him laugh. For some reason, Trent laughed at Eddie’s dumb jokes, too. No one else ever did. They usually just looked at him like he was some kind of doofus.
“No.” Eddie went for honesty.
Trent’s smile went crooked. “It’s just me, Eddie. It’s not like you haven’t gotten naked for guys before. And it’s not like I haven’t seen plenty either. Hell. Would it help if I got naked, too, to take the pictures?”
Hell, no, Trent had better not get naked. Eddie’s cock twitched at the thought. He’d never be able to keep from embarrassing himself. “No!” He said that a little too forcefully.
Trent’s pinched face looked almost hurt. He bit his lip and turned serious again. “If it’s really bothering you that much…well…it’s okay if you want to back out.”
Eddie’s shoulders slumped. Now he felt like a heel. He shuffled his feet, but kept a death grip on the towel. “No, it’s okay. I’ll do it.”
“Well, anyway, I’ve got lots of film, so we should probably get started.”

Oooooh, love the idea of weekday hashtags. I look forward to reading more about them…and maybe even stealing one if I like them 😉
Hahaha…steal away. It’s not like any of them are original. 😉
