TREADMILL Week 153 & What I #AmReading – Class Acts Volume 1

Treadmill Goals/Tracking

  • Get on the treadmill (or equivalent exercise) daily
  • Pace is fine at 30 min/mile, although I may up it on occasion
  • Time range between 30 minutes and 1 hour per day
  • Distance 1-2 miles per day
  • Read the chosen book. I’m officially modifying my original rule of not reading the book-of-the-week off-treadmill. I’m usually going to look at length and try to divide it up somewhat evenly per day, even if that means either closing that book early (if it’s short) or continuing after (if it’s long).

What I’m Reading

Note: Although I will try to avoid them, my weekly reading snippets may or may not contain spoilers, so read at your own risk.

What I #amreading: Class Acts Volume, a JMS Books “trio” including the stories Being Fitz by J.D. Walker, Professor Poison by R.W. Clinger, and Substitute Teacher by David Connor & E.F. Mulder.

JMS Books’ Trios are themed collections of three gay romance stories by a trio of authors. Each story is available separately, but readers can get all three for a discounted bundle price.

Class Acts Volume 1 contains three M/M romances just in time for back to school! Contains the stories:

Being Fitz by J.D. Walker: Fitz is worn out by users, an unforgiving bus route, and life, in general. When he stumbles over a dead body in the park, things can’t seem to get much worse, until he meets Detective Holland Simms. Arrogant and infuriating, Fitz is at once at odds and intrigued by Simms, who seems to be interested in him, surprisingly. Can he make a new start?

Professor Poison by R.W. Clinger: When Niall Reed decides to enroll in a mystery writing college course, his professor is none other than best-selling mystery writer Professor Poison. Things heat up between them, but there’s a mysterious man in the professor’s life named Collin. As the end of the class approaches, will Niall learn who Collin is, or will he lose Professor Poison to a mysterious stranger?

Substitute Teacher by David Connor and E.F. Mulder: Stone Larrabee knows he can’t teach if his students aren’t willing to learn. When he meets combative, closed off parent, Edison Watts, he discovers he has some learning to do, as well. In order to learn, one has to be willing to hope, change, and grow, he decides. Getting Edison to do that with him might be a challenge, but Stone knows he’s up to it, and Edison agrees to try.

My favorite lines this week…

✿✿ SUNDAY ✿✿ (I mowed and didn’t even have my book of the week selected yet, so no reading. That worked out perfectly though, so I could be perfectly fair and devote two days each to the three stories in the collection.)

✿✿ MONDAY ✿✿ (Being Fitz by J.D. Walker)

“Panties in a twist is a good look on you.” His laughter was the last straw. All the disappointments and heartache in my life boiled up and my fist flew without my permission.

✿✿ TUESDAY ✿✿ (Being Fitz by J.D. Walker)

The first touch of his lips to mine caused me to freeze for a moment, then my eyes closed as I melted, because his taste was smooth and laced with coffee and mints and so addictive. I forgot all about Jerry and Henry and my frustrating day, how much Simms infuriated me, how much I still missed my dad, and focused instead on the way our mouths melded, how the super-short hair on his scalp felt against my fingers, the rub of his facial hair on my skin making my nerves tingle. The way Simm’s hand gripped my hair, holding me in place, made me want to do anything he asked. Or ordered.

✿✿ WEDNESDAY ✿✿ (Professor Poison by R.W. Clinger)

The windows inside Room 213 of Darwin Hall were open and an evening breeze found its way inside. The featherweight wind floated through hatch’s ginger hair, waving its strands in an east to west direction. His hazel eyes shimmered in the twilight elucidation as the sun sprinkled the evening with a tarnished hue, closing summertime and the day, welcoming something sexually wicked, teasingly sensual, and whatever else a wind of pre-autumn could nonchalantly devise.

✿✿ THURSDAY ✿✿ (Professor Poison by R.W. Clinger)

A short walk. A brisk walk. Something that I will always remember because he slipped one of his hands into mine, again, just as he had inside the Masterton crypt, just as he had inside The Lancelot, and he said, “I think we meld nicely together.”

Meld. I understood that. I liked it and wanted it. To blend. To combine. To bind. To merge. To mix. To become a subject to each other, of importance. Just the two of us. Together.

He squeezed my hand. I didn’t mind. How could I mind since we were…melding? I couldn’t mind. I wouldn’t.

✿✿ FRIDAY ✿✿ (Substitute Teacher by David Connor and E.F. Mulder)

“It’s Christian Dior, asshat.”

“Asshat?” So, they were throwing down, were they? “Well maybe only put on twenty bucks worth next time.” Stone slipped on his boxers, figuring he’d shower the Christian Dior, hundred and thirty buck rank off once the jerk left. “And let some hair grow back between your legs, why don’t ya? It’s like going down on an eel or a Ken doll.”

“I didn’t hear any complaints at the time.” Joe Hollywood was at the exit. “I, on the other hand, could barely find the tree for the forest. Wouldn’t hurt you to take a machete to the bush once in a while, would it?”

✿✿ SATURDAY ✿✿ (Substitute Teacher by David Connor and E.F. Mulder)

“I know nothing about you,” Stone said.

“You know some things.”

“Very little. I could describe your body, if you ever go missing or something.”

    1. Right? I had to stop reading for a minute just to get all the laughing out of my system before I could carry on. 😂
