RAINBOW SNIPPETS – Change of Plans – June 12-13

Have you discovered the Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook yet? I’ve recently become active there again in hopes that it’ll motivate me to stay active working on this WiP!

From their description: “Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).” Pretty cool, eh? Don’t forget to “Like” my Facebook page and/or my Facebook profile while you’re over there checking out this fantastic group!

This week I’m continuing to snip from Change of Plans, a novella (~32k words) coming to JMS Books in July. Change of Plans completes a series/trilogy, following The Contingency Plan and The Best-Laid Plans.

For overall context, Efren has awoken to discover an unknown man in his bed.

I’ve updated the snippets behind the spoiler tags to reflect changes made to the manuscript through May 10, 2021.

This Week’s Snippet:

Change of Plans - Chapter 1 - Snippet 13

Efren stood, straightened his back, and neutralized his features, hoping to appear unthreatening as he crossed the room and took the young man’s hands in his own.

“You must be Prince Marcelo,” Efren said. Apparently, Princess Marcela had died at some point during the month before the wedding, and the contingency plan had been put into place allowing Efren to choose from amongst her younger siblings. Marcelo was a rare son—Marcela’s twin, younger by mere minutes—born to Sheburat’s matriarchal royal family. Unlike his sisters, eighteen-year-old Marcelo had been kept deliberately naïve and uninformed.

Efren ran his thumb over the ring on Marcelo’s finger and gestured to the ring adorning his own finger, which he expected Marcelo would recognize. “And I am Efren, the crown prince of Zioneven. It appears we are married.”

Blurb ~ Limerick ~ Haiku

I have a blurb now (still subject to further tweaking) 😁:

Once upon a time, two handsome young princes fell in love, faced down adversity, and lived happily-ever-after…until one romantic evening, they unwittingly ate a confection laced with a mind-wiping toxin.

Crown Prince Efren of Zioneven blindsided Prince Marcelo of Sheburat when he used The Contingency Plan embedded in a peace treaty to marry the naïve young prince. Now, Marcelo is shocked again when he awakens in an unfamiliar bed, in an unfamiliar land, in the arms of a stranger who’s taking such liberties!

Will that ignominious new beginning to their relationship doom their chances at rekindling their love? Or will Efren’s giddiness and the less formal surroundings of Zioneven propel them toward a more teasingly fun rapport?

Marcelo and Efren have forgotten more than their love. On their journey home to Zioneven, their Best-Laid Plans went awry when Marcelo was abducted. Now, neither remembers the unexpected strength of character and ingenuity Marcelo manifested to survive his harrowing ordeal, or Efren’s frantic search for his new husband.

Were Marcelo and Efren specifically targeted for the Forget-Me-Not poisoning, or were they the victims of a random assault? Is this new attack related to Marcelo’s abduction and his sister’s death? Will Marcelo revert to his old mild-mannered, unassuming self, or will he step up to prove he’s the same brave man his new family claims he is amid the fresh danger swirling around them?

…and a limerick 😁:

There once was a handsome young prince,
whose naïveté made himself wince.
He was a huge fan
of “The Contingency Plan,”
till a drug turned his memory to mince.

…and a haiku 😄:

They fell in love once.
But can they do it again?
Forget-Me-Not, dear.

About the series…

Although I always try to write sequels so random readers won’t be completely lost, this series will be best appreciated if all the stories are read in order. Look for Change of Plans probably sometime in July (coming to JMS Books). In the meantime…

In case you missed the beginning of Marcelo and Efren’s relationship, here are some handy links:

(Note: The Contingency Plan is also included in JMS Books’ 2018 Top Ten Gay Romance: KU | Publisher | Books2Read | More Info)

The Contingency Plan

A sheltered prince.
A sudden death.
An unexpected choice.
How will Prince Marcelo react
to discovering he’s…
The Contingency Plan?

Originally intended as a stand-alone meet-cute novelette, The Contingency Plan introduces naïve young Prince Marcelo of Sheburat and the slightly older but far worldlier Crown Prince Efren of Zioneven. This story is about Prince Marcelo coming to terms with a completely unexpected turn in his life when Prince Efren chooses to marry him rather than one of his younger sisters to complete the terms of an old treaty between their realms…

A death that wasn’t
what it seemed.
A kidnapping that isn’t
what it seems.
Time is running out.

…But the happily-ever-after hopes and dreams the newlywed princes rode off into in book one hits a big snag in The Best-Laid Plans. Oh, they’re still well on the road to falling in love with one another, but they encounter danger on their journey to Zioneven, and Marcelo uncovers a brave and determined nature buried within himself as he fights to survive his harrowing ordeal.

  1. Ooh, I love the latest blurb, tis fabulous…the best yet. 😂 The limerick made me cackle with glee…but bestest of all…July!!😻 Yay!🎉 ❤️🎉

    1. Thank you so much! 🥰 I’m excited about the looming release date. Still don’t know when more precisely, but hopefully I’ll have that and a cover to share soon. 😁❤️

  2. Poor Marcelo. Not only does he wake up naked in bed with a “stranger” in a strange place, but to then learn that the “stranger” who had come onto him so hard is his husband?
    His brain is gonna short-circuit.

    1. LOL…yep, he might react similarly to when he first learned he was to marry Efren. 😁❤️

    1. Me too! ❤️ In the first book of this trilogy, the scene where Efren selects Marcelo under their realms’ peace treaty’s contingency plan (after the untimely death of Marcelo’s twin sister) was told from Marcelo’s POV, then I rewrote it from Efren’s POV for a free bonus scene on my website. Although Efren’s POV works best for the purposes of this story’s opening scene, I’m pretty sure it will also be rewritten from Marcelo’s POV as a future free bonus scene.

    1. Next week is the last snippet in this thread, so you’ll have your answer then. 😁 Thank you so much! ❤️
