I’ve joined the Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook. From their description: “Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).” Pretty cool, eh? Don’t forget to “Like” my Facebook page and/or my Facebook profile while you’re over there checking out this fantastic group!
This week I’m going in a new direction, sharing from a short story that I expect to be re-released in February. King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate first made its appearance in the Like Magnets We Attract anthology at eXcessica on April 13, 2009, then reappeared as a self-published single on October 8, 2009. I took it (and the rest of my older works) down in the latter half of last year for a thorough overhaul.
King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate will be included in a boxed set of all my short stories tentatively titled Snapshots. King Kong vs. The Skinny Pirate is also earmarked to be released as a freebie single a week or two ahead of the boxed set’s publication.
I hit the sentence count perfectly last week, but I’m over this time. My apologies, but in my defense, most of them are really short.
For context, this picks up right after the longer excerpt I posted on Wednesday in which Blaine (the POV character) has arrived at a bar in search of a hookup. The pickings are slim and he’s considering a man he’s thinking of as “King Kong.” The last lines leading into this snippet are: King Kong grinned. “Feelin’ desperate, are ya?”
Fucker. Maybe not that bad.
King Kong actually waggled his eyebrows. “I showered and everything.”
Blaine crossed his arms, and his jaw tightened. The man was laughing at him. Sure he was picky, but he had a right to be, goddammit. He sucked in a deep breath and slowly blew it out, then took a sip of his Skinny Pirate and cocked his head. “What’s your name? Or should I just call you King Kong?”
The man’s laughter reached his eyes. “That depends. You wanna be my Ann Darrow?”

Blurb
Blaine is a well-dressed, high priced attorney, and George is a hairy mountain of an auto mechanic. This odd couple meets up one evening on a slow night at a bar. The pickings are slim. Slim enough for these opposites to eyeball each other and ask themselves just how bad they want to get laid.
Pleasantly surprised by the evening’s outcome, Blaine is faced with a dilemma. Should he throw caution to the wind and pursue George, or steer clear of that unexpected distraction to his carefully structured life.
LOL! I like these two already.
Thanks! They’re a fun odd couple. 🙂
Those last two lines are super fun.
Thank you! ❤️
Lol! Love it. 😀
Do you have a release date for the box set?
Thank you! Nothing more specific than “February” at this point. 🙂
Fun exchange – I like the sound of this.
Thank you! <3
These two are great fun! 😀
Thanks! They were fun to write, too. 🙂
Great dialogue, love the witty interaction!
Thank you! 😀
LOL! Of all the hilarious pick up lines! 🙂
Thank you! <3
Oh I want to read that! The snip made me smile, but it was the blurb that got me.
Thank you! The boxed set of short stories will be out some time in February. This individual story will be offered as a freebie a week or so before the release of the set. 🙂
Fun snippet. I have to wonder if King Kong is as unenthused about Blaine as Blaine is about him.
Neither is particularly enthused at this point. 😉
Fun snippet!
Thank you! 🙂
