I’ve joined the Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook. From their description: “Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).” Pretty cool, eh? Don’t forget to “Like” my Facebook page and/or my Facebook profile while you’re over there checking out this fantastic group!
I’m continuing with snippets to celebrate the anniversary month of the release of ’Til Death Do Us Part. This one is from another of the flashback scenes, and those are all told from Henry’s 3rd-person POV. For context, Sam has just asked Henry to meet his family, and Henry has expressed some concern at the prospect. Yes, it’s nine sentences, but damn, look how short they are!
Sam coughed nervously as he looked out the open window, avoiding Henry’s eye. “So, you don’t want to?”
“I didn’t say that,” [Henry] said quickly. “Look at me, Sam. Please?”
Sam turned his gaze back to Henry. “So you will?”
“I’m just nervous. You know how things are with my family, right?”
Blurb
Henry and Sam Miller-Greene are living the dream. They love their careers — which afford each of them opportunities to travel to exotic locations — they love their home, Sam’s caring family, and each other. They disagree on the subject of adoption, but are fully committed to each other in marriage … ’Til Death Do Us Part.
The dream is shattered when Henry’s plane crashes, and he’s presumed dead. But four people — Henry, two other men, and a child — survive undetected on a remote, small, and insignificant island. Will Sam and Henry’s love be able to survive as well?
Henry fights to endure in harsh conditions, never knowing when disaster will strike. Sam struggles with his loss, but with help moves on with his life. Will Sam be able to put aside his new love when he reunites with Henry?

Aw, poor Henry. Family stuff is hard.
That’s a fact, unfortunately. 🙂
I’m guessing that Henry’s family is… less than accepting?
You’re guessing correctly. 🙂
Poor Henry. It’s so hard when there’s family troubles.
Definitely. At least he has the support of Sam’s family (or will, anyway). 🙂
Families are never easy, and if he’s had a bad experience, it’s hard to be confident with folks he doesn’t know. Great snippet, Addison.
Thanks! Yes, his experience with his own family isn’t helping him here any.
Poor Sam. Poor Henry. Families get in the way of so much
Too true. At least things will work out fine with Sam’s family, just not so much with Henry’s.
Family can be the pits – I speak from personal experience. Wonderful, heartfelyt snippet. 🙂
Yes they sure can. Henry’s family certainly is the pits, but at least Sam’s is great. 🙂 Thank you!
Well caught. It’s certainly scary to meet the family.
Thank you! Yes, it is, even in the best of circumstances. 🙂
