#FlashFictionFriday Dec 8, 2017 – Photo Shoot Bonus Scene

Flash Fiction Friday

Welcome to my (fairly) regular weekly Flash Fiction Friday post, where I take the prompt words left in the previous week’s FFF post’s comments and use them in a new bit of flash.

This one uses the words, moisturizer, camera, and bikini, left in the comments of the December 1 FFF post. I wrote a short bonus scene featuring Eddie and Trent from Photo Shoot, a short story in my collection, Snapshots.

Here are a couple photos that provided extra inspiration for this little glimpse into their lives:

You can find additional bonus scenes from the stories in Snapshots (including a long bonus scene for Photo Shoot), here.

This scene is told from Eddie’s 3rd-person POV:

Photo Shoot – What Could It Be?

“Guess what it is,” Trent said.

Eddie fingered the present warily. Either Trent’s artistic skills behind a camera didn’t extend to gift-wrapping, or his corny sense of humor was shining through, because Eddie’s four-year-old cousin could have done a neater job of it. He gave the box a shake.

“Hmm, sounds like maybe a T-shirt?” Who knew what silly message would be emblazoned on it, though. Probably something along the lines of “I’m great in bed, I could sleep for days,” or “In my defense, I was left unsupervised.” Eddie choked back a laugh.

Trent didn’t hide his chuckle. “You’re thinking about what might be on it, aren’t you? Maybe it’s a Speedo for that spring break trip we’re planning next year.”

Eddie put the present back under the miniature tree and flopped onto the still-open sofa-bed. He didn’t even try to stifle his snort at that prospect. “Dude, you’ve seen me naked. Think of the extensive bikini wax I’d have to get to look respectable in one of those.”

The mattress springs groaned as Trent lay down opposite and lifted his cell phone for a couple’s selfie. “But think of the fun I could have oh-so-tenderly rubbing moisturizer into the itchy rash?”

Leave as many prompt words as you like in the comments, but I’ll only promise to use one from each contributor in next week’s post (although I’ll try to use them all).

Snapshots - Cover

I love short stories. Sometimes a brief “snapshot” taken from a couple’s larger story is all that’s wanted. The narrative of “how they met” is the focus of six of the shorts in this set—quirky tales ranging from meeting at a charity fundraiser, to college kids pranking each other, to a mishap at a XXX adult video arcade.

Also included is a story featuring a well-established couple’s wedding dilemma, a friends-to-lovers tale, a coming-out-of-the-closet drama, and a continuation short that follows one of those how-we-mets. Rounding out this collection is an account revisiting the main characters from my full-length novel, ’Til Death Do Us Part.

All of these stories are contemporary, although one has a bit of paranormal flavor to it. Heat ratings range from “fairly sweet” to “rather steamy.” Excepting the final story, all were originally written in 2008 and early 2009. One (“Photo Shoot”) started out as a prompt word ficlet that I later fleshed out to a more complete story. Each has received a thorough overhaul, some more extensive than others. I hope you’ll enjoy reading them as much as I did writing them.

Blurb

Whatever your romance reading preference — gay virgin, opposites attract, friends to lovers, or simply fun how-they-met stories — this collection contains a variety of sweet, contemporary, short gay romances, sure to make you smile.

Rewritten and re-edited, these stories were previously published singly and are available now in one collection!

  1. Lol. Cute AND funny, that’s my favorite combination! 🙂 And you’re not gonna tell us what’s in the gift?? Cruel!! 🙂

For next week I give you: “neighbor’s yappy dog”…just because my neighbor’s rat-sized yappy dog is running around my pool area irritating the sh*t out of me, and I’m contemplating if I could get away with drowning it 😀

    1. Thank you! ♡ Maybe some day the contents of the gift will be revealed. Who knows?

Good words! A lot of flexibility. It could go with a standalone bit of flash or a scene with any of my existing characters.
